This store in my city sells the Asus G1s for 1979.95 and like 1889.95 after mail-in rebate.

    - Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7500
    - 2.2GHz, FSB: 800MHz, 4MB L2 Cache

    - Mobile Intel® 965 PM Express Chipset + ICH8M

    - 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM
    - Expansion up to 2GB SDRAM

    - 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) ColorShine TFT-LCD
    - Asus Splendid Video Intelligent Technology
    2nd Display:
    - ASUS Direct Messenger for In-Game system information

    - NVIDIA GeForceGo 8600M GT GPU 256 MB Physical VRAM

    HDD: 160 GB (5400rpm) SATA
Optical Drive: 8x DVD Super Multi drive with Lightscribe
Card Reader: MMC, SD, MS, MS-Pro

These are the spec's for the one they are selling. Is it worth it for the price or can I get a better one online for cheaper?

Note: My dad doesn't like going on the internet to buy stuff so it might be out of the question but if the store one is really not worth it then I might be able to convince him to buy it online.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you get warranty with that? If so, how many years? Dell Inspiron 1520 with similar specs can be about $300 cheaper with 2-year warranty (you can get more, too).

    Warranty

    * - 2-year limited global hardware warranty
    - 1-year battery pack warranty
    - 30 days Zero Bright Dot (ZBD)

This is the warranty listed on the site. Not sure if it applies to in-store purchases though.

$1899 is the retail cost for it, so the price is about right.

Online you can get it for $1805 (like I did)...so $80 more shouldn't be too bad.

Would that be MemoryExpress by any chance? Noticed through your other threads that your are in Canada.

That's a pretty good price - in fact, cheaper than other online retailers in Canada - and if you there are cheaper deals online, at least you don't have to go through the hassle of shipping. And the possible nightmare of shipping back if it's DOA.

I'd actually be willing to pay the 80 diffence just so i can have it now and not wait for it in the mail. Waiting is the worst part and like Umbalito said, if you have any problem you can prolly go back to the retailer. Also make sure you are getting the backpack and mouse; if you care about those at all.

Yup, it's MemoryExpress. I called them yestarday to ask if they had any in stock , they told me they had one and told me to put it on hold even though I wasn't sure I was going to purchase it yet. :p

If it doesn't come with a mouse and backpack then i believe you are getting a Bestbuy version of the laptop package basically. The mouse and backpack are really nice though. Just make sure before you buy, maybe you can negotiate the price a little if there is no mouse or/and backpack

Just remember that if you buy in store you have to pay sales tax if it applies to you also. You can get it shipped next day for 100$ + upgrade your HD to 120gb 7200rpm or 3gb ram, plus you are 100% sure you get the backpack and mouse all for about the same if not cheaper, plus you don't have to wait for your rebate to come back in the mail.

    just go to www.1toppc.com.

Well, got mine too from MemoryExpress, (Calgary, South Store) and it does come with a backpack and mouse. So the Calgary stores definitely carry the backpack+mouse one - If you're in Edmonton, don't see why it should be any different since they list them the same on their website.

The backpack is nice, better than I thought, though it is more for the college crowd. The mouse is excellent. It's a re-branded Logitech MX 518.

I'd say for the price, I'd get it. Considering NCIX has the same laptop for about ~ CAD $2100, before shipping, that's a good deal.

I'd recommend online too, the tax is just a killer on such prices.

He's getting the G1S from the same store I got mine - so that would be $ 1979.95 CAD. Plus 6% GST tax here in Alberta and that's it.

Good deal I think - since you get instant gratification, no need to wait for shipping and the possibility of a UPS guy banging it around. Plus easier to return just in case there are any problems with it.
