Right well as you can probably tell from the title, I'm trying to figure out how to get my notebooks fan to only come on when the notebook CPU temp is around 50 degrees C or around there. (or hotter if its safe)

The reason for this is that even when the notebook is in max battery mode, and sitting around the 42 degree C mark, the fan comes on, so its on most of the time when on battery. Rather annoying if you're in the library ar university.

Now I've tried to use centrino hardware controller but it doesnt have support for the AMD Turion chips...

...So anyone use another program or know how to change something in the bios of a z92u (A6U) ???

surely there must be a way?

    thanks in advance

    You can try using speedfan.
Make sure that you have turned off p4g first as to avoid conflicts....although from memory and other users experiances (checkout A2D threads), changing the fan is not as easy as it should/could be. If this doesnt work I suggest giving those A2D threads a good read, there were plenty of guides of what to do and not to from users.

tried that, I've got the MT Turion and if i try go lower than **EDIT** 0.9v at 800mHz and 1.2 at 1600mHz it freezes. which are the stock voltages . so RMclock is a no go :(

Speedfan also doesnt work :( says the cpu is 127 degrees C .....

    running out of ideas...

decreasing the speed of the processor (HTT) will also lower the power consumption, though not as much as voltage. If you can get the speed down even further (for word processing and web surfing, you probably don't need more than 400 mHz, anyway) then it might buy you more time until the fan comes on.

ok, but how do i change that on this notebook? I dont have no where near as many options in this bios compaired to my desktop..

ok, decided that I'm quite happy to have the CPU run at only 800Mhz or less all the time. how do I go about doing this?

Normally power4gear on max battery mode should lock the cpu to a low speed...at least it does this for PM cpus....you can try out cpu-z to get a real time readout of your cpu speeds while you cycle thru the different p4g settings.

yeah I've done that many times, this proseccor only has two frequencies, 1.6Ghz and 800Mhz, only the multiplier changes on the turions and not the FSB. I want to go lower!

I've got a ASUS A6Vc (centrino) and both multiplier and FSB change when switching between the different modes. The 1.73 Ghz P-m goes all the way down to 415Mhz in battery mode :) and it really quiet!
