My first question is what the hell is it? I've been checking online to see what it does and it just seems to protect some of your files

Second question, is it worth setting up? i mean, does anyone else use it?

lol i asked the same question on notebookforums.com like last week, and there's still no replies. i think i'm just going to uninstall it, it sounds interesting but i don't think its practical for home/school usage.

Infineon Security Platform is basically another form of security that is VERY hard to hack into..

when you enable it.. you set up an amount of your disc space to be used for this feature. Once you enable it, you get a folder that you can dump the stuff you want secured into. Basically no one can get into the folder without entering a password countless other security measures that I don't really know of.. also it seems that it has something to do with locking the files to some chips on the motherboard which I don't really understand

but anyways all you guys need to know is that its basically a super secure drive

alright, so is it worth enabling? is it a resource hog or does it just make everything a whole lot more secure without costing you much performance?

i doubt it is much of a resource hog.. if you actually have something that's worth securing that much then go for it (bank statements or something like that, passwords to different places).. but for the average laptop user, i don't think its that imporant and you shouldn't worry about it too much

if u want just give it a try.. u can disable it after
just remember that TMP or TPM security or w/e has to be enabled through the BIOS before you can enable it using the Infineon security platform

meh nothing really worth securing, i'd rather just uninstall the software and get rid of a few more processes/services.

Yeah, for normal user, prob not really worth having. It's supposed to be an enterprise feature to protect important data should it fall into the wrong hands.

The hardware based encryption will prevent anybody from opening the data in HD should that happen.

I just got a new Acer TravelMate 6410 with the Infineon Security Platform loaded but not, to my knowledge, turned on. After I downloaded and started a couple PC Tools programs (Registry Mechanic and Spyware Doctor), I began to get the following message, identified as an "Infineon Security Platform Status Applet," whenever I boot the computer or try to go in to Contorl Panel: "Resource file <C_SpURsDll> not found." This seems to make no difference to ordinary operation, but it has locked me out of the Control Panel. I haven't installed the printer yet, but the last time I tried, several days ago, it caused the computer to crash and I had to reboot from the rescue disk. I am beginning to wonder whether this missing applet was responsible for that. I would very much not like to lose another day to this. Any ideas?

The Infineon Trusted Security Platform is an implementation of the Trusted Computing Module which is a component of " Trusted Computing". It's very complicated, very complex and very controversial but the articles linked to are a pretty good overview. Personally I have it disabled and wouldn't use it unless forced to.

And if you want real security try truecrypt (it's freeware), otherwise it's hard to totally exclude existence of a back-door.

But info for future reference, if you choose to decrypt entire partition using AES (fastest and good on intel CPUs) then there is about 50% performance hit in HDD access (on my desktop with faster HDDs and slightly slower CPU, the result is about 50% too, so it's somewhat strange to me). So take it into consideration, otherwise it's a great program.

To my knowkedge I didn't activate it, and now it's wrecking my life with its persistent little error message locking me out of Control Panel.

Not being learned enough to find the driver and all associated software, I went back to factory settings and then reinstalled everything EXCEPT PC Tools software that I had downloaded before (Registry Mechanic and Spyware Doctor). So far, so good. I suspect there is some fatal incompatibility between Infineon and one of those programs, because everything else is the same and is now behaving beautifully, even corruption-prone Outlook. -- Bill

I guess if it works for you, that's great. In the future, you can uninstall/edit drivers by right clicking My Computer --> Hardware Tab --> Device Manager --> Expand the device type (in this case it's a "System device") --> double click the device (in this case the Infineon Trusted Platform Module) --> Select Uninstall. This works for any driver for any device. For the software, go to add/remove software under the control panel.

Brett, which option in W3J's BIOS controls the setting of TPM?

Security tab --> Infineon TPM disabled/enabled

    It's disabled by default.

Oh? Weird... I can't find that setting in my W3J's BIOS... I wonder if Asian W3J's BIOS is different from NA W3J's BIOS...

    Hi guy,
I got same problem with you, I just bought Asus F3SC, when I activated the Infineon Security Platform, everything seems normally just only when I installed new software into system, I was allowed to access, it said that I had to login under Administration to do so, but I was login and installed software under my name as Administrator, Now I can not modify, write... on my system, all in system are READ ONLY access even I uninstalled that stupid Security Platform, and when I uninstalled the "security device" of Platform then restart Notebook but when window comes back, I went into the system Device Manager to check whether it is kicked out or not, but I really surprise that the security device is still there.
Please help me out with that problem so Notebook can work normally without the STUFF SECURITY PLATFORM.
    Thanks in advance.

Easy solution (takes longer): reinstall OS, do NOT install TPM software, and leave device DISABLED in the BIOS.

Note that if you are administrator, you can take ownership of any files and make them writeable.

You don't give much info re your system. That being said you may want to make sure you have any updates for your notebook. My F8Sn line has an updated Infineon TPM driver (8/5/08) so yours may have one to.
