OK, I feel best just posting this stuff here and I'll throw it up in "latest from proportable" later.

extra 6 and optional 9 cell batteries for the W5a have come in.

Optional 2nd batteries for the optical bay for the Z63a also came in.

The S5/M5's 9 cell battery does still work and the colors go well. Those of you with the S5 and W5 know that the S5/M5's battery has pinstriping on it (which looks good) and comes in silver or black...... the W5's batteries are just a solid color and come in white or black..... Some thought the white was too much for the W5, so they preferred the silver S5 battery.. But, basically, the "official" batteries are in. Technically at the same time, the 6 cell W5 batteries are backwards compatible with the S5/M5/Z33a ... since those will never have a 6 cell come to the states.

    Thanks,
    Justin

With that said... the Z33a 9 cell batteries are now out of stock a customer told me...... I can't verify that till monday, but as our inventory is scanned out, it comes right off teh server... and last I knew Asus said there was a backorder on those for a while.....

Anyone looking for a Z33a 9 cell could get the black W5a 9 cell.... I guess we just reverse that theory.. IT works.. depends on what you want.

How well do the S5/M5 batteries fit on the W5A? Is the shape slightly off, or does it fit just as well as the normal W5 battery? Are there any comparative pictures?

Here in Canada, the 6-cell W5A battery costs $240 CDN while the 9-cell S5 battery costs $145. I would like to purchase the S5 battery for understandable reasons. :)

The only thing that doesn't fit right is the 3 cell..... the 9 cell will fit and work perfectly...... even looks better in my opinion.

Too bad PROPortable doesn't operate within Canada as well. I would have bought my W5A from you guys, but I didn't even want to think of the duties I might have to pay [xx(]

I guess I won't understand how the S5 battery fits better till I see my W5A.

Coolin, Where did you find the 9 cell for the W5A in Canada? I can only find the S5N/M5N ones for $135 here [:I]

I didn't say it fits better, I said it looks better....

And as many have noted... no duties to Canada on computers.

At the same time... you could get the 9 cell's for the W5.... those finally did get to North America..... but those are the same price as the S5 9 cells... so take your pick.

Liquid: I did not find any 9 cell W5A battery. In my post, I stated that I found the 6 cell W5A that was way overpriced. The 9 cell was the S5 battery. All this is at Canadasys by the way.

Where did you find the 9 cell S5 battery for $135? I wouldn't mind saving ten bucks and having an alternative dealer. (I haven't heard great reviews of Canadasys)

Coolin, whoops I guess I was a bit excited and read your post a little too quick.

The link 9 cell battery for the S5N/Z33A (Black) is here:

    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=111101352&vpn=90-N8V1B5110&manufacture=ASUSTEK%20COMPUTER%20INC.

I think there might be some dealers that might be even a bit cheaper because from what I've seen their prices on cpu's, ram, etc are more expensive that most [xx(]

Pictures for batteries are over rated... especially since you have one...... picture the same thing but wider. Get this.. I know it's hard to grasp, but the 3 cell would sit flat against the back... the double capacity 6 cell is about.. what... 3/4" from flush? The 9 cell is a triple capacity and it sits about 1 1/2" from flush.... just break that 6 cell in half and that's how much more you have to deal with on the 9 cell.

Nope...... it's the same as the S5/M5 batteries were........ the 6 cell was never imported because it was just about the same price as the 9 cell....... the W5's came with the 6 cell because of all the goodies on that unit, the battery life would have been 1/2 of what you get now................... and some people would have been able to accept that if they could cut the weight a bit more....... but I guess Asus wanted to get better battery life in reviews and such.

Any one else care to chime in on the battery life of the w5a? I have seen spec sheets that say anywhere from 4-5.5 hours. I would take either of those numbers, but if it really only gets 2 hours just surfing the web and word processing I guess I will hold off ordering.

2 hours on battery saving mode? Did you change out the hard drive on that thing? Are you using RF and BT as well as wifi? Wifi doesn't use that much life (5 minutes maybe) ... but RF and certainly BT does......... the other important thing is your lcd brightness. Your battery life sounds like the life I'd get under max use with everything turned all the way up.

    I second this request.

Have you checked ProPortable's suggestions? 2 hours on a 6 cell is a deal breaker for me, and I was hoping to order this system in the next week or two.

for reals i dunno what i might be doing wrong. i don't have wireless at home so i usually keep wireless and bluetooth off. also i don't like having a bright screen so it's usually quite low as well. and most of the time it is on battery saving mode. and the most i've gotten is 2 maybe 2 and a half hours. 1 and a half is more like the average. i just got my w5a a couple weeks ago and the most i've done with it is installing programs here and there and leaving it on for downloading. and when it is low on battery i try to drain it all out before recharging again. my friend believes i have a 3 cell but i don't think that's the case because the battery does stick out. dunno if i got stuck with a bad batch of batteries but all i know is that i'm not getting anywhere near the "up to 4 hours" it says on the asus site :(

i just switched over to the w5a. the battery has just been fully charged and windows has just started. the brightness is at the 5th bar from the left (maybe about 25%) and wireless/bluetooth off, and also in battery saving mode.

I'm pretty sure it controls the speedstep, yes. If not, download SpeedSwitchXP.
