----- Z37 should be available end of May, right now has no confirmed specs, it should come with 7700 256M video card.

----- Since lack of elegant 14” powerful notebook, A8Js will develop into two models, A8Js will stay with the current plain looking, it will also have a new notebook, inside should be the same with A8Js, but it will be called F8, with a new designed chasis, better looking, the top cover will use the same tech like G1. It should be available Aug.

----- C90 should be available early May.

NA PM wants to have 8800 DDR3 video, but Taiwan R&D concerns DDR3 8800 will be too hot, since NA PM really wants to use 8800 video card, so NA compromised to 8800 DDR2 to reduce the heat, but with the first batch, it might come with 8600 or 7700 video card because probably Taiwan cannot make 8800 vide card in such a short time, by Jan 2008, there will be total 5 video cards for C90 upgrade use, I suggest the PM if it is possible to sell the video card and barebone separately, the PM said he didn’t think the current market needs flexibility to that level, he feels buyers can just buy the std video Asus packs and buy another video card for upgrade use, I feel many buyers will feel it is a big waste to throw away the original video card, so I told me suggestion to NA president, the president wrote it down and will consider it, let us wait for their answer. Of course even they accept my idea, this can only come true when multiple video cards for C90 available, at the beginning, buyers can only buy the barebone with video card installed already.

The barebone price should be around $1000US if it comes with 8600 video.

C90 will have different versions, the one with the Fans sticking out at the back is extreme edition, you will also see lower versions with nothing sticking out at the back.

Some people worry about the battery life of C90 and reported 86 min battery life, that was from the first test, Asus has adjusted through BIOS and software control, now the 2nd test already reach 100 min, Asus will continue work on it, when it is in mass production, will battery should expect 120Mins, make it comparable with Santa Rosa.

----- On white book side, Asus will majorly focus on desktop replacement now, leave more room to ensemble on mobile options. Asus is also considering 19” models now.

----- Asus USA will improve the ensemble notebook service again, Asus will cover both way Fedex shipping for RMA, you will be able to drop off your notebook at Fedex / Kinko stores.

I'm thinking the chrome on Z37 and C90's touchpad buttons will wear out too quickly and look bad.

I guess the lid is the imprint finish? Looks a lot like the HP dv series.

    Thanks for the photos!
The Z37S looks a lot like the W7J from the outside, doesn't it? :) Looks a bit plastic when you open it though. (Not saying it is, just that it looks)
The XG is a big box. Did you happen to try it out? Curious if it does allow notebooks with intel integrated to play games at a reasonable speed, or if it is mostly a gimmick ;)

Thank you for the photos. :)
The Z37 is probably my next notebook depending on battery performance. All of them look beautiful.

I'm thinking the XG would be atleast the size of a video card (?) - rectangularized with cooling? haha

Is that a full height 12.5mm optical drive on the Z37?

    The W5 grew a hump! :/

The Z37 looks good, but I'm concerned about the weight if they used a 12.5mm optical drive, and the battery life with the 8-series mobile graphics (which are a completely unknown quantity at this point).

I'm not too impressed with the looks of some of the new notebooks. They look to bland and main stream (but then again I am a V6j fanboy). The VX, U1, and W5 look great though. I don't plan to get one (no need), but I am curious to see how well the XG station works, and how well it sells.

man that fan bay in the C90 is just huge.

and id like to see asus incorporate the sideshow screen of the W5 into more lappys. I saw this lappy in person and thats one feature i really like a lot!!!!
Beats having to power up the lap just to see my daytimer and such

yeah....i'm not all that impressed either. really don't like the pattern on the barebones lids. i think i would have been fine if they were just plain black....or included some sort of metallic flakes....not a huge fan of leather on my notebooks either.

Well we were really spoiled by the combined model lines. Now that they are differentiating, all of the things styling wise that I liked about my Z33 have mostly gone to the Ensembles. The flush touchpads, etc.

I actually don't think I'm going to upgrade for a while, none of the new models really offer me much in terms of performance beyond faster graphics (which I don't use on the laptop) and an extra core (which I also don't really need).

Maybe wait for 45 nm parts...

If the Z37's Nvidia N88M-SE 256 MB proves to be a worthy card (aka crysis worthy), then the Z37 is definitely up there as an option for my next laptop. If only it looked like the U1...we can only dream. Having that powerful a card in that small a laptop would be ridiculous so I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah I agree Caleb and ejl. I am a little disapointed too. I don't like the black piano finish look. Too many finger prints. -_- I hope the ensambles are better.

See, I would like to try the leather, see what its like. But, I definitely prefer the brushed aluminum to the plastics of most notebooks. It looks and feels better, plus it cleans well, and holds up 10x better. I also don't like the fingerprints on the finishes, but we will see what the new ensembles bring. (Maybe Titanium!, joking, I have no idea if that would be good or bad).

Any news if there will be any other 15.4" screen laptops other than the C90?

The F8 seems very interesting. However I don't know if I can make myself wait through summer without getting a laptop. LOL BTW any idea of pricing on the F8? Will it be the same as the current A8?

it's a shame the w3 an v6 series lost popularity so quickly....guess the brushed metal got too expensive. i'm gonna cross my fingers and hope there might be some w3js left in june at a cheaper price when i buy....

Yup that's the trade off, of having a glossy finish.

I'm curious, do people like like the glossy finish or a matte one?

I personally like the glossy finish because it is much more attractive, but the matte finish is alot quite nice too. But the gloss just makes it a real eye catcher! :D

I wonder how much the performance of the 8800 will be crippled by using GDDR2. I know the X1600 on the S96J/Z96J use GDDR2 and they get slightly lower 3dMarks than their GDDR3 counterparts. The GDDR3 counterparts overclock better as well.

By Asus schedule, F8 will be available mid Aug, but will try to make it happen earlier than that for back to school sales, the price difference between A8J and F8 shouldn't be more than $100.

GDDR2 and GDDR3 are both based off of DDRII and are optimized for graphics use. GDDR3 is capable of higher frequencies, so typically used on high end cards.

    Hey! Cheap is good!

Would you like them to raise the price? ;)

    The Nvidia NB8M-SE is a 7700? Not a 8600?

Just wondering, will they have a directx 10 capable chip like a Geforce 8600 Go in them? Hopefully it won't be another 7700

Totally agree, my next notebook, which I'll probably by at the end of next year will definitely be a 14'' notebook. 15.4'' is ok, but 14'' is just better for traveling.

Since ASUS's W3J was the only high-end 14'' notebook available, I'm left with no other option but to stick with another 15.4''.
