So i took off the back panel to my G51vx-a1.
This is what the wireless looked like

I'm assuming the wire that's taped down is an extra antenna.
So if i wanted to upgrade my 5100 to 5300, would i just plug that wire onto the card?
Just making sure that's the right wire to use.
-
you get A1 or RX05?
-
Yes, just plug in that extra antenna on to the 5300 card and you're all set.
-
Link to where you bought the card?
-
You can purchase the Intel 5300 card from the list of retailers in the link below:

DAMN.
I bought one from freaking HK and turns out the written MAC-Address on the card and the physical address from ipconfig /all don't match.
I guess it's a relabled engineering sample, b/c it sure doenst' say it on the card.

I thought that when mac addresses don't match it most likely means it's not genuine retail.
Thus it might not function as well (Ex: unstable signals, drops) -
So he got back to me and replied

Is the 5300 that much better than the 5100?
Also how would you rate the difficulty in changing the cards out in the G51 as opposed to say an HDD install or RAM change etc. -
I dont' think it's that much better at all, or from waht i've read.
but i just want to maximize and get the best i can get since i'm going to have to use school WiFi.
But it's just a bit harder I think, just b/c the anntenna and antenna connector pins are so fragile, and I'm always afraid I'll bend the connector when disconnecting or reconnecting..
other than that. it's not even hard. -
it is only hard if you think two screws are hard
