So i took off the back panel to my G51vx-a1.

This is what the wireless looked like

I'm assuming the wire that's taped down is an extra antenna.

So if i wanted to upgrade my 5100 to 5300, would i just plug that wire onto the card?

Just making sure that's the right wire to use.

Yes, just plug in that extra antenna on to the 5300 card and you're all set.

It shouldn't matter if the MAC address is different. You can go into your router settings and clone the MAC address. Most broadband routers support this cloning feature.

I thought that when mac addresses don't match it most likely means it's not genuine retail.
Thus it might not function as well (Ex: unstable signals, drops)

So he got back to me and replied
when asked why they changed it...

    I guess they're in denial.

Is the 5300 that much better than the 5100?

Also how would you rate the difficulty in changing the cards out in the G51 as opposed to say an HDD install or RAM change etc.

I dont' think it's that much better at all, or from waht i've read.
but i just want to maximize and get the best i can get since i'm going to have to use school WiFi.

But it's just a bit harder I think, just b/c the anntenna and antenna connector pins are so fragile, and I'm always afraid I'll bend the connector when disconnecting or reconnecting..
other than that. it's not even hard.
