When I opened up my G50V I noticed that there is an additional hard drive bay that is currently empty. I swapped the hd drive from the original bay into the empty one to test and the machine booted and worked fine.

Is it possible to add another hard drive to the laptop ?

If so do I just plug another drive into the bay and then format as necessary ??

Any help or ideas would be appreciated - If it works as I hope then I could put in dual 500GB's !!.

    Thanks

I just installed a second hard drive in my g51X Best Buy version. It is not recognized under Vista, I went into disk management and it was not identified. It is identified in bios though. Usaully disk management is where I would format and assign a drive letter. The drive is already formatted though. Am I missing something? It is the original drive that came with the computer. The main drive bay now holds a 64GB OCZ vertex SSD. Any info will help tremendously. Thanks again.

No, it doesn't. You have to either buy one from the ASUS estore (~$20 + outrageous shipping) or build a makeshift one. Which I plan on doing once my second hard drive gets here.

Is a bracket neccesary or will some foam padding suffice. I have mine installed but, with no bracket. I am thinking maybe that is why it can not be seen in windows. Any thoughts?

if it cannot be seen in windows try this:

press the power button, as soon as the Asus RoG logo appears press F2. once in the bios go to the far right and choose Reset to User Defaults. save and exit. repeat this one more time. and then boot into windows.

KimoT- if you'd read his previous post he specifically says he cannot see it in disk management.
