Hey guy's, I was thinking about buying a 120gb SSD so I can put my OS and games on it while keeping my HD that came with the laptop installed for storage. If you are unfamiliar with the Asus G51 it has 2 HD bays and some models came with 2 HD's but the Best Buy model only came with one. Is their anything special I need to do to my computer or do I just plug in the SSD, install the OS and call it a day?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

The OCZ Vertex series are really good.
I don't have one in a G51 but in a CLEVO and it really speeds up everything up, boot time is under 10 seconds.
Everything opens amazingly quick, I don't think I could ever go back to a traditional HDD.
    Well worth the money IMO.

Wait wait... I think you can get an Intel X25-M G2(2nd Generation) 160GB off eBay for ~$390 after Bing cashback.

Intel Mainstream SSD has better performance, reliability, and this particular model has more storage space.

That is one of the best SSD available but I'm just saying the OCZ is good too.
I did get mine for much less than the NE price.Much less :p

    SSD installation is simple.

First, it's recommended to install the SSD into your extra bay and check when firmware it has, and update if needed.

After that, simply install your OS onto it. It's best to put the in the bay next to the GPU/northbridge, since it's not affected by heat as much as a normal HDD.

Make sure the laptop as the capability of running in IDE emulation mode, you can't update the firmware on OCZ drives in AHCI mode. The easiest way is to clone it with a usb external or a 2 1/2 inch hard drive docking unit. Did this in a Vista Ultimate with a Asus M70 laptop with Acronis True Image 2010, dead easy.

I don't think you can upgrade any SSD's firmware without going into IDE mode. Also, a jumper will be needed too.
