Hello. With recent weird events like: sudden drop in score for pcmark and 3dmark, disable touchpad shortcut button not working, direct console showing errors, and instant death in bf2 (meaning no critically wounded anymore, which is annoying). I've decided to do a total clean installion of vista and reformat my whole HDD. But before I do it, I got some questions to ask.
-What are the exact procedures for doing a clean installation?
-Will installing a clean version of vista clear all my data on the HDD?
-Is there anyway to keep my data?
-How are the drivers suppose to be installed? People on this forum say to not put in the driver cd when told, so how am I suppose to find all the drivers required for the laptop?
Thank you.![]()

Great guide, written for HP's, works with anything: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228
Clean = No data left. Back it up. -
If you reformat your 'whole HDD' you'll lose all your data - back it up.
If you kept the two partitions and have all your data on the D drive, you can do a clean install on the C partition without reformatting and keep what is on the D drive intact. Simply boot up the recovery disc and recover the C partition. When prompted to put in the driver CD, reboot.
Vista has most of the drivers you need to boot up the G1S. When vista boots up, you can pop in the drivers cd and select what programs you want to install. The thread below should help.

Thanks very much. Now the only thing left to do is to get a portable HDD.

I believe there is an option on the recovery disk to set up the HDD to factory condition, i.e., two partitions. I recommend doing this so you can keep your data on D just in case you have to do a clean install again.

dumb question but a laptop vista noob; how do you force it to boot the cd rather than into windows?
