Hi,
is there someway to install Vista x64 on the V1S from the supplied DVD? Restore disk gives me a pure restore-to-factory-settings option...
-
turn your computer on, get into vista, insert the dvd, then it gives you the options of what you want to do.
-
Supplied restore DVD doesn't have an autorun option, or any .exe binaries for that matter. It's bootable, though.
-
if it's restore disk, probably is for factory restore w/ bloatware included....
-
Exactly. I want to know how to get a clean copy of Vista x64 onto that thing.

The restore DVD would contain either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista. Chances are it's 32-bit. You can buy an upgrade disc from Microsoft from http://www.windowsanytimeupgrade.com/disc or just find a friend with a retail copy or OEM 64-bit copy.
Check the upgrade guides in this forum. You'll need to backup the OEM license key first. -
Isn't the OEM license key on the sticker on the bakc of my laptop?
-
no, that's your license key, probably never activated unless you have used it previoulsly
the oem key is the bulk key the manufacturer uses to install vista on all the pc's.. you can copy it and your vista certificate using orev's abr utility from the hp forum thread on clean installs

2 questions:
What do I do with it after I copy it? and can't I just get a Vista Business retail DVD and install it with the key on the sticker on the back of my laptop? -

You can backup and restore the license key. Read the thread on doing a clean vista install.
Vista DVDs come in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Your license key determins what actually gets installed (Home, Premium, Business, Ultimate). The DVD determins 32/64-bit.
If you install Vista using the key off the sticker, you'll most likely have to call in to activate.
