Hi,
I am planning to install Windows 7 Pro on my G50 that I got a few months ago.
The only thing I'm concerned about is drivers.
I'm getting the impression though that Microsoft has done a much better job with the transition from Vista then they did with the XP to Vista transition on getting manufacturers ready with drivers.
Am I right to assume then that I shouldn't have any problems or should I just download drivers for all the hardware afterword?
Thanks
LC

I would expect that Windows 7 would already have most of the drivers for your G50. You can download the rest.
-
most drivers will be recognized as soon as u install the OS..the rest u can get them from ur driver disks...most vista drivers work on win7
-
I have a G50 Vt-X5 and most drivers were already available, however I had to do so some posting to get info on the webcam, hotkey and direct console drivers.

Everything works right after the installation (Win7 Ultimate) only the card reader needs drivers, but they are very easy to be found and the Vista ones work. The only major challenge I have is the ATK and Direct Console 2.0 after more than 4 h, still can not make it work.
-
have you tried the ACPI drivers that WIN7 show on the windows update? that helped me to workaround the "this software is only for asus notebooks" error maybe it'll help you aswell
cheers -
You can download teh window7 upgrade compatibility advisor tool thingy. it will check your system if it can and then will do a driver availability check.
after i installed windows 7 did windows update and it got all drivers (but then i used my driver disc) -
Oh? My brother has a Bestbuy version G50vt-x5 and his overclocking software...wouldn't work and also these are the things he have to find...Camera/Network/memory card reader/and even the Video Drivers wont work...once installed Win7 it seems to be okay...but he still lost his...overclocking ablility...anyone can help..so far he can fix...his power management to different...settings such as game/video/power saver when FN/Space bar is used!!! I don't really know too much about ASUS products and just orderd a UL series...so if anyone can help..with the Overclocking...software..let me know...i'll tell my brother... thanks!!!!

well if u cant get the video drivers to work(like detected as "standard VGA graphics on " its most likely ur brother hasnt installed the intel chipset drivers, as for the "overclocking software" aka direct console it requires power 4 gear to be installed and maybe other softwares
i recommend u/him to follow this guide(by aidar77)

its pretty easy i believe and it might help him get its stuff together.

Yes, thank you...for the input...he does have Power 4 gear installed...just got off the phone with him...it only lets him...adjust the settings...in his battery mode..to maximized his performance in battery or plug in feature..he used to have an..overdrive...feature in Vista....to allow him to overlcocked his CPU...to 2.3ghz...he has the 2.1ghz P7450 Centrino 2 processor..how do you get yours to 2.4GHz????
-
well idk wut to tell u,from what i understood u say his laptop's OC only work on battery?, and that overdrive thing (never heard of it
) is UAC disabled for his comp? if not try disabling it that might help, or reinstall the drivers?
-
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm only now getting around to installing Win 7 on my laptop.
I don't remember where I found this, but I found some thing about a correct order to install and uninstall drivers.
I assume this applies to ugprades only and not to a clean install, which I intend to do?
Thanks

EDIT: Oh, and will installing a new OS affect the warranty at all? -
BUMPITY....
Guess its a bad idea to post late at night when no one's on. -
