By the end of may the Dual Core prices will be decreased (see links).
Does anyone know whether this will effect the prices of the ASUS notebooks?

Also do you think Apple will cut their prices?
-
Apple never cuts their prices, they just upgrade the hardware and sell it for the the same price as before. So i guess they might upgrade the 1.83 macbook to 2.00ghz, the 2.00ghz to 2.16 and have the possibility to upgrade the 2.16 to 2.33 for a high price premium, just like they do today.
-
Their ENSEMBLE will not move, if anything, like Apple, their hardware will be upgraded.
-
Ok that's good enough for me if Apple do that.
-
-
Not sure if they will even upgrade it, and so soon anyways.
I would say August, or around back to school time. -

W3j will come in representing the new price cuts actually...... the W3j won't change till probably september, if you ask me..... and even then I bet there will be a simple upgrade like maybe to a lightscribe dvd burner and keep the price at the same place. Don't quote me on it because Asus doesn't even know what's going to happen and when, but I've seen things like that occur every year for at least the last three years, so it's a likely option.
-
What about price cuts? The W3J will be releasing at $1900, but will there ever be a price cut on it or just an upgrade?
-
Anyway, the w3j is selling for 1799.99. Just thought Id let you know that. -
the only proc speeds really affected are 2-2.33, at least according to your chart so the w3j would likely be bumped up a speed as someone already stated..anyways by september a lot of things coming out or will be out by then like the V1j that the other half of the asus forum is salivating over

Well, let me rephrase my original question: Does Asus have a reputation of slicing prices when new components come out (or, in other words, did the price of all the old Asus notebooks drop down after time of its original release), or doing what Apple has shown to do and just replace the notebooks with better components? -
From what I've seen, prices either stay, or go up.
The barebone prices flunctuate though -
From my understanding of what's being said, Asus has a laptop at the $1799 price point. Whatever happens, as a marketing strategy(?), they want a model at that price point, and will make minor upgrades to the existing model to keep that price point and stay competitive, rather than cutting prices. It will always be $1799, so you should be expecting to get a little 'something extra' in 6 months for your $1799 rather than paying less for whats in the box today.
-
I'm guessing the price cuts already got integrated into the w3j .. I remember it started at $1799 with a 1.66 Duo, then with the upgrade to a 1.83 and a SuperMulti drive the price was indicated as possibly going up to $1849 or even $1899 .. and yet it finalized at $1799 again, with the upgrades ...
