I just noticed that of all the notebook manufacturer's forums, Asus of all people has the most posts by far --by almost 10,000 posts! (34k versus Dell's 26k and HPs 24k) That's quite a surprise. I would think Asus would be 2nd or 3rd at the most.
I guess Asus is becoming more well known among enthusiasts... interesting.

Yeap, it's second only to What to Buy, first in Brands
Dell has most threads, but we have more posts... -
Maybe us Asus users just dont have any lives so we sit in front of the pc waiting for the next chance to pounce on a thread.

Asus gain so much popularity from last year to this year.

Ive owned thinkpads, fujistsu, compaq, HP, sony,NEC, and asus out of all has been my overall favorite.

Thinkpads are good solid machines. But overall i dont like the LCDs but now they have gotten much better since i used them. Compaq HP are fine get what you pay for they work but are cheap build for most part. Dells are ok again cheap build. Fujistu decent nice sceens. Build isnt bad keyboads are terrible horrible. Sony eh ok machines nice screen crap keyboads and build for the most part to pricey for good models also. Overall asus has good solid build good keyboards and good screens. They are also more stylish. there are many good pcs depends what you want. Asus i think is lacking in the gaming laptop market though no good offering there.

It's more related to the users. Asus users are mostly enthusiasts, always trying to tweak stuff and optimize. So they are around forums more often. Other laptop brands have mixed users, with some brands being mostly used by passive users who wouldn't visit a forum unless they have a problem they cannot resolve.
Not to take anything from the quality of Asus notebooks! They are one of the top 3 IMO -
u shud guess the next qn..
so what are the top 3? -

I think the reason for that is. If you take all the hp dell and asus owners and test their pc iq you will find that out of all 3 asus has by far the biggest percentage of nerds and it pro's. It probably also has something to do with the fact that i rarely see a support call where a customer does not know how to install windows.
-
I'm not sure number of posts on a message board indicates much by itself. A better measure of popularity, for instance, is probably sales (as measured in units, rather than dollars).

I was surprised to find out that ASUS which is the worlds best mobo maker was making notebooks and has been for years when I was looking for a notebook to replace my old HP (the mobo died on it)that I had for 6 years. From the minute that I knew that ASUS was making solid notebooks, I knew that I would end up buying one which I did. I looked at HP, Dell, MSI and even Sager before I settled on the Z81sp which I am very happy with the preformance and build quality. I would have gone for the sager but wanted something more powerful then the x700 and a notebook that would be more upgradable in the future.
Another thing that made me buy an ASUS is that I wanted something unique becasue I did not want a dell or an hp since everyone that I know and on campus, has 1 of them and not to mention their technical support which can be a nightmare (past experence) to deal with if something goes wrong with it.
The funny thing is that people are always asking me things about my notebook such as what's ASUS, and I have to explain the them basically they are the most popular motherboard maker and my fellow computer geeks are like "wow you got an ASUS mobo in that thing" when they see my notebook. -
asus completely took me by surprise. i was researching the sony sz series, which i was originally going to get, when i came across someone saying get the w3j...which turned out to be the machine of my dreams (-.23 ghz cpu power, but ill live..) never even knew they made notebooks. but odds are, its only asus from here on in..

I think it (the thread and post count) also relates to Asus's somewhat "underground" status. If you need info on a current product, often you have to come here, you certainly won't find anything on Asus's website. So Asus users *need* a forum like this more than Dell or Compaq users do, who can get info from a million websites or even their neighbors kid (who probably knows about Dell but has never even heard of Asus).
Of course all the other reasons are a part of it too. I'm like many here who found out about Asus as a notebook company from having built many desktops with Asus mobos. Which makes me more the type to stalk forums for info than someone who read about it in a magazine. -
I think it's a quality product (hence the overwhelmingly positive feedback) that suffers from not having the marketing muscle that Dell, HP...etc. has.
I'm also surprised how they sell their product (as far as I can tell) - online distributors - you won't see one in Best Buy or Circuit City. I think this could detract from more casual buyers since they're less likely to try "less trusted/known" sources.
I just discovered them (and this site for this matter) while doing a search for Alienware reviews/feedback.
I'm still trying to determine what is the best company to buy the Asus I'm intending to buy. -
-
Aside from great quality, I think I am attracted a lot to Asus laptop's underground status, it's nice not to have the same thing as everyone else and still know that you have a superior machine
-
I think it has a lot to do w/ the type of people who buy an asus. They're a little more difficult to find and their owners are usually a little bit more computer savvy and informed I would think.

Go Asus. Wonder what will happen if they start to get popular
-
I hope the quality of ASUS notebooks stay the same as they get more popular.

ASUS is a sort of exclusive or rare product, too, probably due to the lack of a huge marketing budget as others have mentioned. I was originally looking at a Thinkpad z60, but order nightmares caused me to look into ASUS. I'm so glad I did now that I own a Z63. I've seen a hundred VAIOs, countless Compaqs and HPs, and who knows how many Dells at University, but so far I've seen my Z63a, one guy with a W2, and the other day I saw someone on a W5. It's kinda cool to have something unique and rather stylish that isn't a Mac
Interesting statistic Asus popularity
