    Is Asus Z84j portable enough to carry around in the university campus setting? And is the short battery life an issue if you intent to carry around the campus most time without the access to the AC power? And is the screen able to view it in the outdoor setting?

    Personally, my answer to those questions are...

    No, 17" is too impractical. 14"-12" is the sweetspot.

    Yes, the more battery life, the better. You don't want to spend too much time hunting for an outlet.

    Yes, the glossy screen is viewable outdoors. But the glare from the sun might be an issue on a fair day.

    I think 15.4" is the highest for everyday carrying (17" for occasional). I carry a 15" everyday, and I don't mind it at all (V6j - very light for its size). My battery life is normally 4.5 hours, and too much lower than that would be bad news for me. I think 2.5 hours is the minimum, unless you know you will always have power. I doubt the screen will be viewable outside, very few laptops actually are.
