I'm looking to replace both my Dell XPS M1330 and my desktop PC with a single powerful gaming laptop. The G70S-A1 would work as a user's only PC, right?
And I see that a both a new G70 and a G71 are coming soon - does that mean that the G70S-A1 will drop in price when they arrive? I was going to order this week, but I could wait another month if it would result in significant savings. All advice is appreciated.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Asus does not put notebooks on sale. When a new model refresh is released imminently, if there is a lot of existing stock leftover stock they may offer a MIRebate to encourage purchasing. I don't see that as a problem with the G series, although for the G70 it's possible as it's not as popular a model compared to the G50.
Whether the G70 would work as a gaming replacement depends on your gaming needs - it is a midrange gpu, which is generally outstripped by most desktop components in terms of performance. For the remainder of general use, it will be more than adequate (once you get past the color scheme).

Definitely NOT. It's ridiculously expensive. Go check out the Sager forums for a desktop replacement gaming behemoth.

AdyingWren, can you suggest a Sager laptop that's completely comparable to this Asus? I want HDMI output, equivalent or better video card, 7200 RPM HDD, and a Blu-Ray drive... It looks like the NP5796 would be perfect if I could get Blu-Ray in it. If I can't find a better model, the G70S-A1 still looks like it would meet all my needs.
EDIT:
I picked the NP5796 after all. Most resellers don't offer a Blu-Ray drive, and the few who do sell a Blu-Ray burner, which is way too expensive. But for the same price as the Asus I am getting a way better video card, a 2.8 GHz processor, and faster RAM. I'll miss the superior Asus warranty, status screen, and extra keys, though. -
Well, i was going to say get the np9262... you can get a much better video card and MUCH better processor than the G70S-A1 (plus your darned blu-ray) for within 10 dollars of the price of the G70S-A1 at xoticpc.com...

That one sounded really good too, till I noticed the lack of HDMI. I plan to connect this to my HDTV/surround sound at home, so native HDMI support is important. Also as long as they want $500 to add a Blu-Ray drive, I'm holding off. I'll get an external drive or wait until Sager resellers achieve a reasonable price point on those.
I definitely appreciate your advice though; I had never heard of Sager until you showed the way. -
It's absolutely no problem. Enjoy your np5796. I am insanely jealous

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
And that would be the benefit of living in Asia where these things are produced
.
For the remainder of we mere mortals, we are dependent on Asus' distribution eccentricities.....
Is it a good time to buy a G70S-A1?
