    Is it just me, or does everyone prefer the G51 over the G71?

    It seems that the majority of topics I've been in, most of the people have preferred the G51 over the G71. Why is this? Is there any issues with the G71, like temperatures, or other problems?

    Personally, if I wanted something like the G71gx, I would have gone for a beefier Sager. I stuck with a G51 because I like it's looks lot better, and that its smaller and lighter.

    People choose the G51 over the G71 because it offers a balance of power and portability. The G71 is very big compared to other 17 inchers and has fairly the same components as the G51, which to most is redundant with the only reason left for purchasing the G71 is to have a large display. Also, there are a lot more users with G51's than G71's on this forum.

    That's what she said.

    I think its just the allure of the much cheaper price for pretty much the same punch. The lighter weight and smaller chassis are also factors. the extra 2GB of ram isn't very useful for most buyers, and the larger screen with even larger chassis, are the only reason it attracted me at all (I would've pounced on the G71 RX05 from bestbuy had they not raised the price to 1300$)

    OT: that is the most eyebleeding signature I've seen on NBR

    I'm in the same boat but I've been here long enough to know what's wrong with the G51vx and what's wrong with the G71gx. G71gx may be labeled as a 17" but in actuality once you hold/see it - it seems more like a 18"-19" notebook, which is huge! Plus during the thermal fiasco, tons of G71gx owners switched to the g51vx. There are also some little quirks/issues that still are with the g71gx that people acknowledge and sweep under the rug (hibernation/sleep issue, Ram downclocking due to turbogear, etc.). The thermal issue on the g71gx had to have a bios upgrade while the g51vx hasn't had a bios update at all and has worked fine since day one (little problems but not as big as G71gx).

    So people revert to the g51vx despite the low cpu for the lesser problems and for the apple-like keyboard. The G51vx may be lebeled a 15" laptop but is once you hold it/see it - it's seems more like a 17" notebook, which is large but not as bigg as the g71gx. People are more into portability and size and the g71gx seems too big to some people.

    Both produce high heat by the way and has been stated by Asus that it is fine because it's a gaming laptop (with a high heat 260m gtx). Underclocking and having a laptop cooler is the only way to lower temps sadly.

    With these aside, the choice is up to your preferences.
    Want a 15" laptop with apple like keyboard, faster hard drive (320 7200rpm), 4GB ram, but it's only downside is cpu (which can be upgraded), go for the g51vx.
    Want a 17" laptop with a regular keyboard but higher specs out the box (P8700, 6GB ram), but slower Hard drive (500GB 5400rpm) and slight issues, go for the g71gx.
    The price differences are also going to influence the decision as well, $1299 for g71gx or $1049 for g51vx...

    Hmm, before, I was leaning towards getting the G71, but now I'm considering the G51 over the G71. The main reason I wanted to get a 17" is because it has a large screen.

    BTW, the specs of the one I'm looking at are different to the ones that you stated before. Does that mean it would still have the same problems as the model that you have?

    Furthermore, the G71 is now $1300 at Best Buy. For that much money, you could go buy the much superior Newegg version of G51.

    I was facing this same choice 3 weeks ago, it is a tough one

    g51 is smaller and more portable, has a lot of the same components, faster HD and a lit keyboard.

    g71 is larger, has a bigger screen, more ram out of box with more room for expansion. Comes stock with faster cpu if we are talking best buy models.

    I chose the g71 myself, I wanted a desktop replacement so the bigger size is more of a plus to me than a negative. I am lucky and snagged mine back when it was only $1150.

    To make it simple, if I wanted compact gaming system I would pick the g51. If I wanted a desktop replacement (as I did) go for the g71.

    G51 is smaller, lighter, cheaper, and has a backlit keyboard.

    I think the G71gx is better looking than the best buy version of the G51, but the Newegg versions look better than the G71.

    The RAM downclocking can be easily remedied with changing the settings of two options in the bios. It would take 30 seconds to do. Also, I have not had the sleep issue since I downloaded SP2, and even then it only happened once every 25 or so sleeps (word?). I never hibernate, so I have never experienced that issue, but I guess I'll try it out and see what happens.

    The G71 has 2 more GB of ram, larger but slower HDD, larger screen, .5 GHz faster processor, slightly lower temps, possible support of quads (more than likely since the G71 didn't have a prior model like the G50 that didn't support quads), more RAM expansion potential, and better speakers.

    The G51 has a backlit chiclet keyboard, better viewing angles for the screen, and Raid capability (I have no idea why Asus did not make the G71 RAID compatible).

    They both have the same gpus so when gaming why not have the 15 incher since its the same performance plus portability.

    The backlit chiclet keyboard got me i think. The entire inside looks fantastic including the hand rest. I have a radio with that material. 16:9 ratio is nice for movies. Still has the power of the g71. Actually how wide is the g71 screen. Its in 16:10 ratio so maybe movies would be the same size on both!

    I've to agree that the chiclet keyboard is just so awesome.......its backlit, is chiclet styled, and best of all, is really really really quiet (I type with alot of force and really fast) so I don't really annoy my roommate or things like that.

    What's funny is it's this very thing on the G51vx that keeps me seesawing between the G51VX-RX05 and G71GX-RX05. I've never used a chiclet keyboard and with it being backlit entices me more. Problem: Despite how people can spin it, the processor Asus put in the G51vx-RX05 is somewhat not as good as it's bigger brother (G71GX-RX05). Same as Forge - I would break the warranty, for me because I need a somewhat fast CPU (doesn't have to be top teir but somewhat mainstream).

    If I grabbed the g71gx, I could live with not upgrading/breaking the warranty until the warranty was up. It pretty much has great specs right out the box, the g51vx is the same but it's CPU. I know the issues of the g71gx-rx05 and that's why I keep looking at the G51vx from time to time. Alas though, whenever I go visit both laptops, I can't help but fall in love with the size of the G71gx. Now my wife likes high tech stuff as well (and games, lucky me huh ;)!) and whenever we visit Best Buy to check on the laptops (she sometimes goes with me to pickup some games for her laptop), she always drops her jaw in how big the g71gx is.

    So as mentioned before I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place...
    I like the G51VX for it's chiclet keyboard, low price, and small/sleek size but it's CPU kills me.
    I like the G71GX for it's out of the box high specs and giant Size of the laptop but the price/small quirks kill me.
    Guess I'll keep visiting/torturing myself in going to Best Buy and do more evaluations.

    To those who are wondering, I only visit Best Buy once a week, I'm not a stalker, lol. The guys/workers at Best Buy get into discussions with me every time I come in and do cross examinations of which one is better as well. Nice fella's, they try their hardest in getting to walk out with one of those two laptops. At times I almost do (g51vx lately), but with my up in my laptop budget - the choice between the two is even harder and I usually walk out the store empty handed :(...

    Next week or the following week after is when I'll reveal to everyone which one I grabbed. To those who think I'll be getting the G71gx, don't count me short - the g51vx HAS been in my hands (swinging the box by the handle) almost to checkout a few times, the g71gx hasn't whatsoever. I'm considering both laptops, which one is still undecided...

    I know how you feel. Best of luck with your choice, I honestly think you will be very happy with either of the two. I like you loved the size of the g71. I also liked the clean sides, doors for the usb/speaker jacks, rear display and A/C jacks, and large rear air vents. It just has more of a "Desktop away from your desktop" feel to it to me. It also has the option of up to 12gig of ram and quad core extremes in the future when I need a little more oomph. It doesnt support raid from what I have read so I will just get a SSD for primary sometime and use the 500g for storage. I havent really had any issues with this laptop either, bought it july 22nd. Installed 1201 bios and have been trouble free, although I havent hibernated it yet.

    The g51 on the other hand is more portable, highly powerful, and has that awesome friggin keyboard. It will save you a few bucks too. Although it doesn't support quad cores, it does support raid which is pretty cool. It does have a slower cpu but it seems people have been overclocking them pretty easy if you are comfortable with it. It will also fit more bags/backpacks, and fit more coolers. It really does balance portability with power and has a portable powerhouse feel to it.

    Best of luck!

    Well, since I live in Australia, I can't buy from Bestbuy, Newegg, or the other stores that you were talking about, but I have found a G71GX in Australia.

    On the same site I have also found a G60, which is kind of weird, because I thought that the G60 hadn't been released yet. Anyway, if it was between a G51 (which I can't even find in Australia), or a G71 from the following site:

    http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...W8BD6OYTI67M58IG4EUUEKSCPCR4M4C7&sku=31020652

    What would be better? I really want a 17", because I want it to be a desktop replacement, but I also take it places as well.

    BTW, here is a link to the G60VX:

    http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwave...W8BD6OYTI67M58IG4EUUEKSCPCR4M4C7&sku=31020651

    What do people recommend me to get?

    Also, I've done some research, it seems that the Australian version also suffers from the heat problem, although a BIOS update fixes it.

    Are the prices in Aussie dollars?

    As a G51 owner, I'd say just go with the G60. Since the two machines are so close in specs, it really comes down to aesthetics, which the G51 takes in a landslide.

    Yeah, the prices are in AUD. It's actually pretty ridiculous considering that $3000 AUD roughly equates to $2200 USD.

    I went through the same dilemma and found a just-out display G71 at Best Buy for $1035 (was put out only a week before - I checked the dates)..they had none in stock but that one they just got in for display...it was just bfr close time and I told them I'd take it if I got a discount. I could not pass up that great deal so I got it.

    It had the 1201 BIOS already flashed (I think there is a 1700 something BIOS out now) and I have had zero issues with this laptop...very solid build and its not that big (to me), I'm used to a larger laptop coming from a D900T clevo...now that was a BIG laptop!! sounded like a helicopter taking off on boot up and prob put out as much heat!..sad that the MoBo died). What surprised me about the G71 was how light it was for the size. and outside temps are not that bad at all ..even playing Crysis for a few hrs. With the landing lights on the side and front turned off and its all black look...it looks great to me...and I do like the clean style of most of the ports hidden on both sides...will p/u finger prints though.

    Later I'll prob drop in a Quad and a SSD when Win 7 officially comes out...would be cool to see how the performance will increase with these mods.

    Bottom line both will be great laptops...just get what you like..for me i love the bigger screen size (larger rez too if I'm not mistaken) and the ability to be able to upgrade the CPU over the G51.

    I'm just dieing making my decision. I like to look of the white g51vx more than the black/blue but the A1 on sale here is black/blue.G71x .. big screen, great sound. G60 like the A1 but the white lid but not out for sale here ... its torture I swear lol.
    Read on another thread about waiting when It comes to laptops. Make that 2 years for me. 1 year not really difficult cause I knew they didn't have a good machine at resellers (or anywhere except clevo and alienware). This year watching the whole w90vp thing up until now ... I'm sooo close! :)

    I find it kinda funny how people think a 2.0GHz processor and a 2.53GHz processor are "similar specs"

    You can OC both so that doesnt help the argument. Still quite a gap there.

    @PMac366

    The difference between 2.53 and 2.0 (which can easily reach at least 2.3) in gaming is minimal at best.

    Don't say that you can overclock the 2.53Ghz because at speeds above those, you'll barely see any improvements in games.

    I agree on this because even when you overclock the 2.53ghz using Asus overclock utility, it bumps it to almost 2.9ghz and you'll only see 5-10 frames on games (noticeably less in Crysis). 2.0ghz can be upped to almost 2.3ghz as mentioned by TevashSzat but it's still not going to add too much frames. Both CPU's are dual core and are already well suited for games, especially at 2ghz. What's going to give you better frames is overclocking the GPU, the cpu will not bottleneck before the GPU...

    Am I right on this one?
    I keep seeing stuff like this that gives me this reason:

    You won't see an increase as big as 5-10fps when overclocking the CPU from 2.53GHz to 2.93GHz in games that are not as dependant on the CPU. As for the GPU, implementing a healthy overclock of say 20% from 500/1250/800 to 600/1500/900 will yield a six fps increase at 30fps.

    CPU and GPU overclocking results are calculated linearly.

    The G51VX-X1A (Newegg) pretty much puts the hammer down on the G71GX-RX05 (BB) now that the price is the same. Although prices are currently the same depending on what state you live in the shipping w/ no upfront tax (Egg) could be considerably less than the upfront taxes from BB making the G51VX-X1A cheaper upfront (or perm if you don't claim the purchase at tax time duh)

    CPU = Same
    GPU = Same
    RAM = GX (6GB) - although some are just fine with 4GB
    LCD = X1A (1920x1080 OLED backlight)
    HDD = X1A (7200/16mb cache)
    BlueTooth = X1A
    Warranty = X1A
    ADW = X1A

    While I agree that the X1A has superior specs, I'm not finding them to be the same price. The X1A is $1,300 off of newegg, and the RX05 is $1,050 at best buy (unless they changed it since I bought mine yesterday.)

    He's saying you can go for the g51VX-X1A instead of the G71GX-RX05.

    He said the G 71

    Yep....you're right for the vast majority of the games.

    The occasional game out there like GTA IV may have the CPU as the bottleneck but those are very rare.

    I thought so (thanks for answering here btw), that's why I'm seesawing still between the two laptops. I've shrugged off the CPU and now it's going to be down to my next trip (or 1 after) to see which I feel comfortable using and seeing...

    I could care less about GTA IV (prefer it on my PS3) but Crysis is a key game I love to play and don't want too low of frames. I know of ways in getting Crysis high frames by updating to the newest patch (1.21), using CUDAATS (3.00), Overclocking the GPU (to stock or a comfortable overclock) and possibly overclocking the CPU. I don't want the CPU to be the reason for low frames...

    Whoops. I read that as 51, my bad. Taking my illiterate goggles off, I pretty much agree with what was said in the first place. Even to be used as a portable desktop replacement, I'd stick with the G51 over the G71. If you want to stay around the $1,000 mark, get the best buy version, but if you've got the $1,300 to spend, grab the one off of newegg.

    This is the least biased point of view I have read in this thread and sums up the differences pretty well. The biggest difference is size and when most people are buying a laptop they have portability in mind. I would imagine the g51 would be the best match for what people are looking for, a portable gaming rig. The only reason to buy the g71 is if you want a larger screen/unit. That said if you want the largest screen/chassis possible on a laptop to feel more like a desktop, to say the g51 is still better is beyond biased.

    This is what I mean. To say the g51 is a better desktop replacment than the g71 sounds silly to me. The g51 has the power of the g71 in a smaller package, and because of that it has a smaller screen, more conspicuous connectors, less effective cooling, and less room for expansion (you may not need more that 8gigs of ram but a larger chassis gives you the option). Suggestions and opinions are great, but facts are facts.

    Honestly both computers are great, I myself almost snagged a g51. I liked the portability and the cool backlit keyboard. I will admit that the g71 not having a backlit keyboard is a bit strange since it is a larger unit. Go figure lol. I just couldn't resist the larger size and the sleekness of the g71 (hidden usb connectors are sleek).

    To answer the op, not there is nothing wrong with the g71, it is just is a little large and not what most people prefer when thinking portable computer.

    The thing of it is you dont HAVE to OC the cpu in G71 which is huge in terms of heat. In the G51 you are pretty much always gonna want to OC the cpu if you want to play most games. But thats just me.

    I am all about watching temps cause temps killed my last 2 lappys

    OCing the CPU will cause a relatively low increase in temps.

    Anyways, the CPU in both the G51 and G71 run relatively cool so having them run a bit hotter after OCing isn't too much of a concern.

    I have owned a G51VX-RX05 (Best Buy) a G71GX-RX05 (Best Buy) and now a G51VX-X1A (NewEgg). I even owned a W90VP-X1.

    Originally I was totally sold on the G71GX-RX05 over the G51VX-RX05 however after running them side by side for a few weeks that opinion began to waiver. I was in a unique position of having both laptops at the same time and compare them and test them in the same environment with the same material to see how they stacked up against each other.

    Now my comparision was done based on a very "typical" user, where I stay completely within the boundaries of what is available out of the box. No under or over volting, no outside OC apps like SetFSB, nadda. I used Turbo Gear and Hybrid Power to OC both machines.

    The G71 was quicker and sharper compared to the lower res (albeit brighter) G51. The backlight keyboard was not a feature for me since I don't need to look at the keys to type (i.e. I can do this with my eyes closed, so room lighting plays zero into the equation, well it will get a rise out of people who need help typing).

    The biggest surprise and turn off for the G71 turned out to be that the GPU actually runs hotter in the "bigger chassis" G71 than it does in the G51. Yes the G51 keeps the GTX260 cooler, running native resolutions or higher via an external source. I ran them at native and up against my 52" LCD 1920x1080p. The G71 will keep the CPU slightly cooler but the CPU has really never been a concern in either laptop.

    Now based on the price it was harder to justify the G51VX-RX05 over the G71GX-RX05 (more ram, bigger CPU, higher res) unless you ultimately needed the backlight keys to type in the dark or something slightly more portable, or cooling of the GPU was a concern. This when the price was still $1150 on the G71.

    Then the G51VX-X1A stepped into the ring, not only offering everything that the G71 packed (save 2GB ram) and a lot more, but offered in slightly smaller and cooler (GPU cooler) package. The X1A adding a true OLED HD screen (1920x1080), BlueTooth, quicker HDD, Longer Basic Warranty, Accidental Damage Warranty. Then taking everyone by surprise BB raises the price on the G71GX to match the X1A. At this point imo it becomes a no brainer, the screen of the G71 being slightly bigger is far inferior to the X1A, and even with the added 2GB of RAM (which is questionable as to the need for the average or above average user) the added benefits of the X1A at the same price crushes the G71GX-RX05.

    Not to mention, the X1A is even cheaper depending on the situation and state you buy from. Shipping + No Upfront Tax (NewEgg) < Upfront Tax (BestBuy), then there is the thought of getting up to 6% cash-back using BING (so easy) when buying through NewEgg. The G71 is a great machine but at $1299 its severly over-classed by the G51VX-X1A.

    @Warhammer

    Lots of good points there, Indeed the g51 on newegg is a great deal. When I bought my g71 it was at the lower price. One interesting thing so far is newegg is only selling the g51....well so far. I have a feeling when the g71s come out on newegg they will be like the g51s, with all the extras the best buy models dont have. Till then though I agree the newegg g51 is the best bang for your buck.

    That said the higher screen rez is not something I really like in a laptop mainly due to my preferance to play in native resolutions and the fact that the 260m is not strong enough to play the most demanding games at full 1080p and be smooth as silk. This is only a plus to me when looking at a gaming laptop. If 1080p gameplay was a requirment for me I most likely would look at a dual gpu setup from a different make such as a m17x with 280m's in sli. Or maybe a w90 and prey I get a trouble free one.

    For movies, its a moot point, on a small screen the noticable gain in picture quality is minimal between 1080p and 720p at close ranges. At ranges greater than 5 feet the human eye cannot pick up the differance in resolution at all as the pixels are too small (we are talking small displays here).

    Now if the lappy was going to mainly be web browsing, working on photoshop or editing, ect the 1080p is a really nice plus as its nice boost in screen real estate.

    I may be wrong on the cooling, but I just know I see alot of people with g51s in this forum that run reeeeally hot. Havent seen posted temps quite as high on the g71 but I could be missing some info.

    Edited to add: @warhammer, How did you like the w90? I really liked the look of that lappy and it seemed like a beast hehe.

    The W90 was the true mobile desktop replacement as it had everything you could want, unfortunately it has been plagued with issues. I went through 4 seperate machines which honestly gave me great insight into how ASUS treats their consumers post purchase. While neither the CS or the Tech folks had any control over the product that ASUS put out they sure did treat me incredibly well so much so that I continue to purchase thier products without hesitation because I know I will be take care of 100% in the long run.

    Regarding the G71 it is no great secret that there is a huge dispartiy between the amount of threads in comparison to G51 threads. With that said it might be a generalization but one might say the G71 owners seem more content in sitting back and enjoying their machines "as is" and not about tweeks or benches let alone general posts from owners (not potential owners).

    Like I said before I was in a very unique position as I had both best buy models G51 and G71 at the same time. I was able to run the most complete head to head comparisons allowable, that being having both machines in the same room with the same ambiant temps, sea level, humidity, etc. Now that doesn't mean we should exclude the variables in manufacturing and a best case would be to test multiple units of each in the same environments. However given this I experience higher GPU temps in the G71 than I did with the G51 when the environments were equal. I did the tests multiple times, over many days with or without OC'ing (Turbo or Hybrid) native or external (equal) resolutions and the G51 was able to keep the GPU cooler by more than a few degrees C each time. (all without the use of an external cooler).

    I still like the G71 however given the price I cannot recommend it on any level over the G51-X1A. The X1A has a much much better warranty (experience talking here) and that alone makes it a "better buy". Even the little perks add up like bluetooth, as using bluetooth on a G71 via a dongle is a pain in the butt due to the "flip down" usb panels. This is a case where the G71 is a victim of its own design. Not to mention just from the aspect of if you are not "a computer guru" the amount of information and help is 10 fold for the G51 as compared to the G71. Ask a question re: a G51 and you will get multiple responses (most from owners), do the same for a G71 and you will be lucky to get one (most likely from someone who is thinking about one, but doesn't own one). Now this may change when the A1 model is available but for now, these forums are a pretty lonely place for G71 owners. Support comes in many forms and the G51 again provides their owners with more of it.

    I didn't think that size was that big of a deal either, remember I was coming form a W90 (12lbs w/o pbrick), however after moving the G71 and G51 around the house over the course of a few weeks it became very evident which one I found myself picking up more often. Again most people don't get this oppurtunity, as they make their choice at the store and don't really know any better.

    PS.....For anyone who is on the fence regarding which to buy the G51 or the G71 and is a Best Buy Silver or Black reward zone member remember as part of the program you are allowed up to 45 days to return a laptop and restocking fees are waived as well (yes laptops!!). Buy both and take some time and see what fits you best. I mean heck we are not talking about a few bucks here but a pretty sizeable investment that you are probably going to stick with for at least a few years so why be stuck with "woulda, coulda, shoulda's". Would you buy a car without a test drive? I would hope not.

    Well guess I am glad I didnt get a w90 a few months ago. Kind of sad news that a lappy with as much potential as the w90 had so many bugs. But I am glad to hear asus treated you well. I like asus, have been using their motherboards for years. I got a bad board from them once but asus made it right. I am pretty proud to have a lappy with the asus brand.

    The hottest my G71 GPU gets is 82ºC (Crysis/3dMark) without a cooler and with an ambient temperature of 77ºF. I know some of the G71s were getting past 82ºC though since the old underclocking issue only occured when the GPU got up to about 86ºC, but with the new 186.42 drivers ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=410917) I'm only getting 82ºC with my GPU at 550/1375/950 and a 15% CPU OC. The G51s get up to 90ºC or hotter don't they?

    But yeah with the new price tag on the BB G51, the X1A is a much better buy although I can't say that I like 1080p 15" screens (my cousin has one).

    I can only speak to what I experienced and when I put a G51VX (BB) against a G71GX (BB) in the same exact environment and ran the same games my G51 stayed cooler. At first I thought it was because the G51 (BB) was running at a lower resolution so it wasn't pushing the GPU as hard as the G71 with its slightly higher resolution screen.

    So after a few go rounds this way with the same results (G51 cooler) I in turn decided to even the playing field and hook each one up to my 1920x1080 52" LCD. The results were even more favor of the G51 as not only did it hold a cooler average temp it had a max temp well under what the G71 was reporting for the same game over the same length of time.

    It totally blew me away tbh, as it was not what I had expected so I kept doing it over and over and the results stayed the same. Now having both I did notice that the surface area of the vent exhaust is smaller on the G71 as opposed to the G51, potentially resulting in the G51 being able to pass a greater volume of air when the fan is running as well as when it is not.

    Now individual results will vary thats why I had the unique luck of having both together when I tested instead of trying to reproduce someone elses room and their ambient temps, humity, air flow (yes there is a difference between a 78F room and a 78F room with a ceiling fan on), etc. I would have been great to test a few of each this way.

    Yes there are a few G51 folks spouting off about "omG mY GpU is nuCLear" which I take with a grain of salt. If you prod enough, you may find out they are running the laptop on the carpet, in a warm sunny room, with their GPU clocks tweeked, and their CPU modded through SetFSB; or they tried to apply their own AS5 with a caulk gun. Heck maybe G71 folks just use TurboGear if that, it took forever and Im not sure the PLLs have been discovered for the G71 yet. The G51 people were ripping into it the same day.

    If there was as much forum effort into stressing the G71 in order to get the most out of it as there is with the G51; I would guess the G71 would be privey to enough unqualified people trying to reproduce their 'educated' work resulting in another "mY pgU is hOT!!!!!" thread or post.

    Unfortunately right now there doesn't seem to be a lot of G71GX-RX05 or A1 participation in these forums to really correctly guage whats going on. I know for a while I felt pretty lonely every time I posted about it.

    I don't think anyone has but I don't want to be misunderstood as bashing the G71 as it is a great machine. However with the current price increase of the G71 I cannot endorse it over the G51-X1A.

    I highly doubt that the g71 runs hotter than the g51 I've never seen temps higher than 83 when I've gamed for hours on end. Yet many g51 owners are surpassing that just by running 3dmarks alone.

    It is true. We are talking about average temps.

    For 83C, what games are you playing? How long? Are you using a laptop cooler? What are your 3DMark06 temps? Native rez, extreme burn in, 8x MSAA Furmark equilibrium temps?

    No. It attempts to approximate the stress that games put on your system but falls short.

    Orthos will max out the stress on your CPU.
    Furmark or OCCT will stress your GPU well beyond any game out there (including maxed out Crysis)
