i have the UL30A-A2, and the built in mic has a lot of hissing static intermingled with my voice.
i have played around with the recording settings in real tech control panel, as well as windows control panel recording settings, and included a sample of the static that i get with this microphone.

i tried uninstalling the real tech driver, and the static still remains. the static is also present in express gate. i tried also running ubuntu 10.10 from a cd, and there was static in there as well.
i got this notebook less than 2 weeks ago, and i noticed this issue.
turning on noise reduction in realtech menu does remove the static, but it makes the voice too robotic.
my question is: do you other UL30 users also have the same quality of recording on your microphone? or is it much better and clearer and hiss-free?
if other people dont have this static, then that means i'll have to ship it out for a replacement, but if everyone has the same quality of hissy recording, then that saves me the trouble of having to ship it out anywhere, and i'll just keep it as it is and will have to stick to using an external mic. (external mics dont give me any static in this notebook).

Most of the ASUS mics are way below average. I am using a Sony stereo mic plugged into the mic input.
