I purchased an Asus K53E-BBR9 two weeks ago.

Under task manager it has 92 processes running. Physical memory: 39%

    Does that sound normal?

It didn't seem like I could find any bloatware on the computer. I used PC Decrapifier and it only found one thing.

I could take a screen shot of my processes if anyone is interested.

I am not sure how to do a clean install, but figure I will just make a backup of how the system currently is.

    No way...

I have freshly installed Win7 Ultimate (with Norton Antivirus, Intel Rapid Storage Technology etc. running in the background) and I have 49 processes.

    sure, it's normal.

i have 74 running on my fresh win 7, and i took out a bunch of asus bloatware.

asus has a lot of background programs. the keyboard, ATK drivers, mouse, and OSD have a bunch of processes.
and you probably see a crapload of svchost.exe too.

but go ahead and post a pic of your task manager process list.

Its normal for a best buy model :( they do typically have more things pre installed. If you're comfortable doing so and have a disc i would do a clean install.

    Thank you for the replies.

Here are the screen shots. The second image has the remaining processes from the scroll.

Bottom line if you are happy with the perfomance of the machine there is no need for a clean install. A safe way to remove some of the bloat is to open (win key R to bring up the run dialog - msconfig - and uncheck any updaters, java stuff, etc.
See my attachment as a rough guide

When you did the screen shot did you click show processes from all users?

Thanks for the reply. I did not check show processes from all users.

Here are the pictures showing them:

If you could, by all means, go for a fresh install of Win7.

Do you really need "Synaptics TouchPad Enhancements" that consumes a quarter GB of memory???

    Thanks for the reply.

My laptop didn't come with an OS cd, so I will need to learn how to do a fresh install of Windows 7.

I'm sure it shouldn't be too difficult. I'm assuming I'll have to purchase a Windows 7 CD to do that.

I'll manually go through each process and learn if they are necessary. I'll definitely be removing that Synaptics Touchpad enhancement now that you mentioned it.

yep, you don't have any processes out of the norm.

you just have all the bloatware installed.

    you don't really need-
    wireless console, sonic focus, power4gear..........

pretty much all the asus crap is useless, except the kbfilter and OSD.

it's only using 25mb of memory.

and synaptics software allows multitouch and gestures. That should be kept installed.

Even after you clean install a useful tool i've been using is Soluto.com; gives you statistical data and helps you disable startup processes (I know msconfig does the same thing -- but its helpful to get your timing and what not)
