With Notebook Hardware Control?
-
-
No, NHC only supports Pentium M cpu's for undervolting. It also has some issues running on Vista. RMclock will work better.
What CPU is it? -
the core 2 duo p8400. I MUST undervolt.. somehow. so RMclock will work?
-
RMclock doesnt fully support the P8400. You can undervolt it but there will be a catch, it cannot recognize the half multiplier the P8400 has. Meaning it will downclock by 100mhz~ because it will max out on the 8x multiplier instead of 8.5x
-
oops sorry. I meant the P8600, if that makes a difference.
-
Ah yes it actually makes a whole difference.
The P8600 has a 9x multiplier which means there will be no downclock. -
Is there a site that shows the default multipliers for the P8600?
I forget, how do I convert volts to watts? what is the amp for the CPU? Correct me if I am wrong, but I recall each reduction of one watt equals about 10 extra minutes of battery life? -
I believe watts is volts with respect to time or along the lines of tha. Too troublesome so never really bothered with it in school
.
-
Where did you hear that 1watt = 10mins? Battery life saved will depend on the testing conditions (eg. full cpu load)
For actual use, you will be able to use the notebook 15-25mins more.
Volts x Amp = Watts (Total power consumption) -
Very cool. I'm a big fan of undervolting.
My current (dying) z70v uses 800Mhz at .7 volts, and 2.0Mhz at 1.068v. Hopefully I'll be able to get some extra battery life for the U6Vc, as it's battery life is rated poorly. -
You should visit the undervolting guide.
I too have a notebook running on .700v idle - .988v max.
Unfortunately on newer processors, Intel locked the minimum voltage to around .900v -
Aw... there's no way to unlock it? Surely some hackers have found a way to do so!
-
Not to my knowledge...
-
=( sooo disappointed.
-
Apparently there is one way by doing a pin mod to the VID pins, but that is more of rocket science. Your CPU could blow just by trying.
-
My T9400 runs at:
0.95 V - 1.60 GHz (6.0x multiplier)
1.10 V - 2.53 GHz (9.5x multiplier)
It makes a lot of difference in terms of max. temperature. Previously the cpu was hitting 78-80C during burn-in tests but right now it does not exceed 68C.

Here are my results:
.9V 6.0x multiplier
1.0375 9.0x multiplier
9.0x multiplier could probably go one more multiplier lower, but I figured I'll just be safe
Normal temperature during normal usage is 35 degrees C. This compares against 55 degrees C for my 3.5 year old z70v. -

What is wrong with your z70v? I used that laptop for 3 years regularly and sold it to someone. It still did not have any problems...

Could just be a loose or frail cable. You can probably fix it for $50 or for free depending what the actual issue is.
-
Or that may be a bad inverter. You may try replacing the inverter (which is really cheap) and give it a try... If you can fix it, you may sell the laptop for a lot more...
-- -
Where can I get an inverter?
how much did you sell yours for? seeing that low end core 2 duo laptops cost $700-800 i don't see the z70v being able to fetch that much money..
oh yeah taking a screenshot still works though. i was using an external monitor when it died.
plus:
the laptop battery lasts around 10-15 minutes w/o adapter.
adapter wire got severed and i bought a second ac adapter.. but the end that plugs into the laptop is slightly bent so it has to be inserted in a certain way.
I'd have to fix/buy those parts too if I were to resell. looks unlikely. -
My original battery was dead and the keyboard was not in good shape due to heavy use for 3 years. So I ordered a new keyboard (~$20) and a brand new battery (~$100) before selling it. And then I posted it to Craigslist and in a few weeks someone bought that for $600 cash. If you exclude the battery and the keyboard expenses, I got $480 exactly...

Did you sell it recently? How recently?
-
In September or October 2008...

Oh wow... I don't know though.. if I make all the investments and no one buys...
Is it possible to undervolt Core 2 Duo Processors?
