I own an ASUS G1 (not even the G1S) and the processor speed is 2.0 GHz right now. I feel that my laptop is really slow comparing to the new product line laptop that keeps on going to the market right now. Do you guys think that I should sell this G1 and get a new one or should I wait? I am planning to wait till Nehalem comes out, which is 2009 I believe when they will be having Nehalem on notebooks. But I am not quite sure if it will have a drastic improvement on speed. Can someone give me some suggestions?

i cant remember the specs of the G1, can you post your set up?

You dont NEED the FASTEST laptop to be able to enjoy gaming. If you have a high end 7 series card as I imagine, then the performance will be just as good IMO and is definitely not worth turning your back on. DX10 is new but not established, squeeze what you can out of your system untill DX10 is used more than now and better GPU are available with mature drivers.

If your system is slow now this could be the OS only and not the hardware. Try doing a wipe and clean install of windows. Also stick to XP for best performance.

a time when current inventory is being phased out is a good time to get a good deal but if a good deal is not what you are looking for you might as well wait for the penryn equipped laptops

if you're not satisfied with what you have and have the means to upgrade then i don't see why you wouldn't.

But don't do it for CPU speed, unless you do CPU-intensive stuff like video encoding. Most likely, the CPU speed is not a bottleneck in your gaming.

thanks all for the suggestions, I'll probably wait till Nehalem comes out.

One thing that I am afraid when I want to exchange laptop is that, where should I sell my old G1 to ??

I think you made a good decision.

I don't know where you can sell it, ebay perhaps? Or just give it away to a younger brother or something like that :) (if you can afford it, of course)

Or sell it for a fair price to a friend that you trust.
