Sounds kinda cool, but none of the images work...so that's kinda sketchy.
If you want go sure why not give it a try since it's not too expensive. Then report back and let us know how the stuff is.
I'd say it's worth it if you don't want any scratches on your laptop and trust me scratches DO happen, very easily. -
that seems pretty cool. If you have extra cash i'd say it's worth the investment
-
That ebay auction looks very sketchy. The pictures look exactly the same as a regular w3 chasis, but with a little more light shining on it.
Rather than get that, I would get a notebook sleeve or protective case. (If you dont have one already).
If you take good care of your laptop, there is no need for the protective film. When its not in use just put it back in its sleeve / case.
But I guess if you want even more protection you could give it a go. Only problem is, look up ezStick on google. They are non existant?... -
Only the wristrest part may be worth it, since the lid is aluminum, and. doesn't scratch very easily.
Thought I'm sceptical of the sizes.... -
...not to mention what type of adhesive they use - will it leave film?
Could that type of thing also mess w/ the heat dissipation...etc. if covering the casing material? -
Agreed.
What happens if the heat from your laptop bonds the adhesive to the chasis of the laptop and you cant remove it? -
just emailed 2 questions to seller about heat and real pictures for w3 with this protector ...
i'll let you know answers when i receive it... -
i've got an answer not from the seller yet ,but from the guy who got and uses this protector for fujitsu notebook.
"hi, I bought the laptop protector,
Its a laser cut sticky-back clear plastic film that protects your laptop from minor scratches and palm wear.
I can recommend this product if your laptop needs lid and base protection, I must stress there must be no contamination on the surface prior to use, as it bubbles and looks unsightly, but once fitted, its perfect. no more palm wear worries." -
Looks kinda sketchy. I'm guessing the film will last a year or two, then developing small bubbles (liek low-quality car window tint) or becoming darker. Plus, there's no way of telling what it will do to the surface of the laptop once you remove it, i.e. if it will leave the glue behind or what. I agree with the above posters; just get a cheap sleeve. It's not like you're gonna let your cat type on it anyway... right?

ok
already looking for sleeve
-
I actually just saw this on one of the laptops at work (Dell C600) it had the same type of plastic protection on the wrists part of the laptop. The laptop is all made out of plastic so it was sticking rather well (I dont know how it would be on aluminum), when I tried to peel it off it didnt leave any marks. I did find it to be a little annoying and very noticeable (made me want to take it off every time I looked it
).

If you're in the market for a sleeve, you might want to check out http://www.case-pc.com/ I just ordered a sleeve from them for my W3J. The sleeve shipped out today, so I can give you general review as soon as I get it, and a more thorough review once the W3J arrives to go inside
-
Woot! Nice timing
Just when I was looking for one, Adam
Will be looking out for the review -
I came across them looking for one myself (sleeve and/or case - not sure yet).
I'll be interesting to see what you think. -
Yeah, I had originally looked at a sleeve I found at the Apple store, an InCase black sleeve with a felt-type soft lining, zippered on top (the long way) with a sort of dull-fake-leather exterior that seemed to be durable. I decided to return it once I investigated case-pc, since their product is much more versatile and half the cost of the InCase, which was $50+tx.
My goal is to get a bag to go along with the Case-PC sleeve. I'm unsure as to if I'll get a messenger, crumpler, or regular-old "JanSport" type back pack. I need to carry a textbook or two along with the W3J, so a regular back pack would be spacious, and discreet. If anyone has a suggestion for a bag, I'm all ears. I'm considering checking out L.L. Bean as well as Eddie Bauer - both seem to have durable bags that, along with the sleeve, should offer good protection for the laptop. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Adam -
i think a regular backpack would do just fine. as long as it have a good enough suspension, and wont just break at the seams with the load.
im thinking maybe it's more important to find a dimensional perfect fit bag to slot in the notebook so it'll stay in its place. that way it's protected from scratches and bumps. ooh. gets lots of pockets. side pockets, front pockets, top pockets, etc.handy.. for an urban survival kit.
-
ps. backpack is nice cause it'll distribute the load on both your shoulders and that will make a difference over long periods..
-
Any suggestions for a good back pack that doesn't look too...strange?
-
alienware doesnt make backpacks do they?
i havent been looking at any backpacks recently. will post when i see a nice one. oh found this: www.fabrixcases.com - nice-looking but dun think they're strong enough.. .. just fabric?!?!?! -
I don't know that it's necessarilly made by Alienware, but they do at least have Alienware branded bags (what can I say, I was curious!) http://www.alienware.com/GearShop_Pages/Gear_Shop.aspx?CatId=1288
Also, I looked at fabrixcases, and I gotta say they really don't look like they offer too much protection. I have yet to receive my sleeve from case-pc, however just going by appearances and the description on the web page, I'd think a "quilted" interior, although cozy, won't do much to stop bumps and bruises
After browsing the L.L. Bean and Eddie Bauer sites, I think their bags may be cost effective and practical (nice looking, too). I'll head out to the store this weekend and write back with what I find. -
they do?!
lol
sweet a-lit.. will be waiting -
Fabrix does seem to be just protection against scratches - and 'minor bumps', as the site claims. I'm guessing they are mostly useful for the iPod and camera cases, not for laptops.
Good find with the Case-PC! That looks like an awesome product, and I'm looking forward to the reviews.
For backpacks, I can personally recommend The North Face and Dakine (click 'Packs' after all the sport links, then select 'Street') - both companies focusing on outdoor products, so the quality is solid, and the designs are very modern and stylish. Some of their daypacks have laptop compartments and some don't, so look around on your own. And of course check eBags for reviews and stuff. -
Thanks for the suggestions Scarf. I'll check out North Face also and let you guys know if I decide on anything. (so many decisions
)
-
oooh.
im quite a fan of northface actually
nface pandora looks good..
but it's 'designed' spec for women.
lol..
dakine's have laptop sleeves,
campus n 101 pack looks promising..
thks scarf face -
i'd prefer like this Backpack - http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=TLB005US - , but leather one and exactly 14"

If anyone actually buys the "film" like protection, make sure you cover every inch of exposed surface/plastic, because even If the product itself doesn't leave any marks or residue when you remove it, any exposed areas will fade and age over time...definitely leaving noticeable edges behind.
Someone needs to invent a product that can be applied easily in a spray or paintable liquid form...that would allow you to cover every last inch evenly.

Suspension system Sleeve!
I ordered one of these, sounds nice and Victorinox makes the original swiss army knives so hopefully it'll turn out ok =D -
hey yea dangsy, have u received it?
tell us all abt it when u have k? -
ahh nope not yet, but once it comes in i'll let ya know =P

Those Alienware bags look hideous. ~ick
You guys have to check out this sleeve/bag hybrid, I love it, but it's so expensive I'm waiting for either prices to come down or I'm just going to buy it after I save up some money.
After adding extras the thing comes out to over 100 USD.

Chazman did the review for a couple bags and he included a quick look and review at the sleeves that come with some of the bags.
I want one, NOW~!!!! -
Yeah, the alienware bags aren't going to win any beauty contests, but they're also not going to be kind to my wallet.
Likewise, YIKES! to the bag you showed, Shampoo. Looks darn good, but too rich for my blood. I'll keep looking around for other bags and let you know what I find.
[Update: My sleeve has shipped out today via ground and is expected to arrive on Friday, April 7th. I'll be out of town until the 9th, but I'll put up a "first impressions" review, with an update once I get my W3J] -
Just to update anyone looking for a good notebook sleeve - I received my sleeve today from www.Case-pc.com . I'm away on a conference now, but I'll be back Saturday night and will post some pictures and first impressions. I want to use it for my W3J, but since I don't have it I'll use my mom's HP TC1100 as a surrogate test.

I would also reccomend the Glove case by STM the 14" should fit the W3J. Here is the link http://www.radtech.us/Products/SpecialtyBags.aspx

Hey all,
I've inspected the "SMALL" (13.75 x 10.25 x 1.75) laptop sleeve I purchased from www.Case-PC.com for $25.00 (USD) with free shipping to the United States. Larger sleeves will vary slightly in price, but still have the free shipping available. I've included some pictures with my review. I am intending on using this sleeve for the W3J (13 x 9.7 x 1.18-1.28), however since I do not have the laptop yet, I have tried the sleeve with a HP TC1100 (10.8 x 8.5 x .8)
The first thing I noticed when holding the sleeve is that its very light yet feels very sturdy. The top material (silver side) is sleek and smooth to the touch, and feels extremely durable. Likewise for the back (black), which is made out of a durable fabric. When tugging on the sleeve from any point on the sides or corners, there does not seem to be any give or stretching. The "grip" material, centered on the top and bottom of the long side of the sleeve, feels strong yet somewhat less thick than the other materials on the sleeve. The inside of the sleeve is made of a felt/velvet type material that is very soft to the touch.
The opening for the sleeve, which is on the side rather than the top, is a very durable fabric material with a strong velcro securing system. I especially liked this aspect of the sleeve as it eliminated any possible scratching that could be caused by a zipper closure. I was curious to see how well it would hold, so I performed a little "experiment". Since the TC1100 is much smaller than the intended laptop for the sleeve, there is a good amount of room in the bag. To determine how secure the sleeve is I turned the sleeve upside down a few times with the TC1100 inside (its OK, I did this over my bed just in case and not from very high). The sleeve remained closed and I did not hear or see any movement in the velcro closure strip.
The sleeve has a "bumper" sewn around the outside edges to protect the laptop from any inadvertent....bumps. The corners are extremely well protected - when pressing in on them, there is essentially no caving or deformity whatsoever. As you move away from the corner and press inwards, the bumper causes the bag to roll upwards or downwards, rather than pinching inwards. With the proper sized laptop in the sleeve, I believe the bumpers will provide good protection, with excellent protection at the corners especially.
The back side sleeve does have a mesh pocket to carry papers, discs, etc with the notebook. Personally, I would not use this simply because it is on the outside of the sleeve an, as such, if you are carrying the sleeve by itself, there really is no protection offered for anything in that mesh pocket area. I don't intend on using the mesh, and want the sleeve only for the notebook protection so this does not bother me at all.
I have to say, I am quite pleased. I will provide an updated review once I get my W3J inside and can truly "test it out", however considering the durability, the quality construction of the sleeve, and the price, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better sleeve. Again, I don't recommend using the mesh on the outside for carrying other items, however that would be an issue of personal preference. In closing, this is an attractive notebook sleeve that offers a great deal of protection at an affordable price.Attached Files:

Here is an additional picture with the TC1100 on top for size comparison. To give some perspective, the sleeve should perfectly fit a W3J. Please see my previous post for exact dimensions of the sleeve, W3J, and TC1100.

a-lit, thanks a lot for this great review !
i've decided to find a leather backpack bag first... then sleeve ....still have no luck.. -
What price range are you looking at for your bag? I'm personally avoiding leather only because I'm more concerned with the material being durable and taking a beating. Also, did you want a bag for the laptop and other items (i.e. books) or primarily for the laptop alone? -

Yeah, thanks for the review and pics...this might reach/help more people if It was posted somewhere else as well...seeing as the case isn't directly tied to Asus, and other's could benefit from it as well.
I'm not complaining though...thanks for taking the time to fill us all in. I'd love to see some pics of the sleeve with the W3J when you get it.
Thanks -
Good point Coma, thanks. I've now posted it under the Accessories forum as well.

^ Prob. why it's discontinued...sorry man
-
sorry, but cases are definitely always a good idea
-

I really like the radtech rebound sleeve too. I'm gonna keep looking since my laptop isn't here yet but I think that might be the one I go with (its by far the prettiest IMO).
-
Pretty expensive if you ask me.
-
Yeah it is but I think I would rather spend it on something I like and will actually take care of than something that is ugly and couldn't care less about (even though I am talking about taking care of something whos sole function is to take care of something...). I think I am gonna lose this argument...
-
I found out that the Rebound won't fit the W3j kierkegaard...
Is it worth to buy - Laptop Body Protector for w3j ?
