I just received my W3V and I am having quite a few problems with it.

    1. I fully charged the battery, and after 5 minutes, it shut itself off.

    2. My screen has one red dead pixel towards the center of the screen.

    3. My fans are audible, even on idle. :noisyfan:

    Is my W3V defective?

    1) completely shuts off or goes into standby?

    2) see if you have 2 more dead pixels, ASUS will change it if you have 3 or more

    3) undervolt it ;)

Completely shuts off and won't turn back on.

this is only on battery, and when it's not plugged in, right?

also, does it go through the whole "windows is shutting down" procedure, or is it just *poof* and off?

Sound like your battery is defective and has a memory problem (Your battery has a memory problem not your notebook). Even if your battery life is nill it should be giving continued warnings of low battery life and going into stand by and/or auto-shutting itself off while telling you it is savings all your settings and information on the screen. The fact that it pops off without warning shows that your battery 'thinks' it still has a lot of charge when it in fact doesn't.

My guess is that your battery shorted out somehow. I would RMA it if it is still in warranty. Note, however, that battery warranties are ALWAYS less than that of a normal computer warranty. 6 months to a year is the industry standard battery warranty, I am guessing that the Asus battery warranty is one year, but that is just my guess.

    RMA IT.

    Your system is new, right?

Don't struggle to fix it. You would never be able to fix it anyway.

RMA to Asus and have them take a look.

    Good luck.

PS) After you RMA it, can you put a review/feedback on their customer service?? I would like to see what kind of customer service they provide with expensive items like notebooks.
