    Hello all,

I've been looking around for a good Asus laptop I could get for under $1400 and chanced upon a glowing review of the A8Jp. I've looked around, but I can't seem to find it in any online retailer. Any ideas?

Or if it really isn't available anymore, can you point me to a similar laptop for the same price range?

    Thanks!

Yeah it is hard to find. Only the A8Js (with a geforce go7700, OEM version for $1379 at newegg) is available. I read somewhere that the A8Jp was only a limited edition and was no longer made by Asus. If the A8Js is too expensive then look at the A8Jm ($1298 at newegg). It only has a core duo but the go7600 is pretty good. The bit older Core Duo only disadvantige is that it cant do 64bit.

    Dont get the a8jm
Weve learned from the asus forum that it doesnt have a c2d update bios

Their also seems to be something missing from the hinges that causes more plastic cracking

And besides its just too expensive for what it is still

You know Id say dont even get the a8js.

I got mine for 1500 when it was a brand new model 9 months ago.

Im going to be conservative and tell you the new a8js will have

2 gb ram 160 gb hd, 1.3 mpx camera 8600gt (or gs) 2.2 ghz cpu
for $1600 out the door. And thats like the best $200 youll ever spend.
The best machines are the new ones. If you dont have a gun to your head take the time to try and get the brand new models because they are coming soon.

It will pay off. I dont think 1400 for the a8js is a great deal.

How about $900 for an A8JP with 2gb ram?

I was hoping more for a new one. And since my budget has drastically fallen to about $1200 (including shipping and tax), the A8JP is out of my league. *sigh*

Ya, someone just won an a8jp with 2gb ram off ebay for $910 plus shipping. Seems like a great deal considering it was well taken care of and has most of the warranty life left on it. I would recommend trying ebay if $1200 is your budget. Past auctions for the A8JP have gone for about $1000, which is a $200 savings if you don't mind having less than 2 full years on the warranty. Since it's a relatively new laptop, even the used ones should have over a year left on the warranties, which is still decent.
