They are the same notebook, just with different specs.

The a8jm is an older model, and there has been quite a few issues on it, the A8js is the revised more current model, with less issues it seems.

Yeah... although in theory they should be exactly the same shell... there have been fewer complaints about the A8Js/p. I wonder what it is about the A8Jm that makes it so much worse compared to the others...

I have an A8Js and the plastic on the left hinge broke completely. The screw is now instide of the plastic part and there is a big gap between the bezel and the plastic on the back. :(.

Should i contact asus? Or should i buy the parts?

well what is the part that is broken? you described diffeerent parts

If the lcd LID is broken you send it in they would probably just replace it and its a 25$ part to do it yourself.

It would be good to engineer with some epoxy ( jb weld) and put some peice of metal there if you think its going to happen again.

It's too bad. The A8Js is one of the best sub-15" notebooks I've found, feature-wise. But it looks so cheap in photos and I've read a lot about problems with its build quality. I haven't had the chance to see one in person yet. I considered purchasing the A8Js before, but I think I'll avoid it unless they update the chassis with the release of "Santa Rosa".

It is actually a design problem, I think, what is with cotolay. Because the hinges are in from the edge1 inch this lets you open and close it with torque. and that one inch is plastic

It is no different plastic than any other notebook quite the opposite its better.

This is a problem very common to sony notebooks or probably all notebooks. A friend of mine who has a 4-5 year old vaio actually epoxied a peice of building material to the right side of the lid.

I have no doubt that 90 some percent of people would not have a problem but at the same time I think a certain percent would definitely have a problem
I would not be happy with a design that lets you break it by opening and closing it the wrong way.. It is insidious as well because you may feel guilty about it like it is your fault
I gave it a lot of thought a long time ago when i saw pictures of a8jm cracked lcd lid.
You have to be careful to open and close it from the direct center. I am thinking of reinforcing it and posting a picture but at the same time i think it voids my warrantee.

ps I think i understand that the back of the lid and then the front of the bezel is cracked.

The bezel has no function to holding it on so you could super glue it or leave it.
