It was on sale on Best Buy's site for under 900, then it went to "Outlet Item" status and couldn't be shipped anymore. Does that status mean you're out of luck if you can't find it at a BB store locally? It's gone from all my local stores. Am I boned?

    More than likely yes.
I'm sure the G53 will be out in a few months so they are probably just getting rid of the old stock and wait for the new model.

At this point, you would be wise to wait for the refresh. The GTS360m was not really much of an improvement (from a performance standpoint) over the 260M, which is beginning to look dated.

With any luck the G53 will not only look much better than the G60JX (WORST LID EVER) but will pack a very efficient and powerful ATI GPU.

I purchased my new G60JX online and picked it up in store yesterday. I had to drive over an hour from my house. Thank god, I had some other stuff to do in that area, although I still would have made the trip. There is 8 Best Buy stores in between my house and the only store in north Texas that had it. I live in the D/FW area and had to travel to Sherman, TX which is on the TX/OK border. They had 7 of hese babies in stock; I told them they should share them to stores closer to DFW.

I paid $854 for it. This new asus replaces my older Qosmio X305.

If you are interest in buying the laptop and picking it up in store just added it to you cart, select in store pick up and start typing in zip codes for area in which you are willing to travel to. I almost gave up locally and was about to buy it in MD and have my brother pick it up to ship to me.
