Ok here is my proposition this new machine Asus c90 is regarded to be fully customizable right? but this does not make sense in terms of the graphics upgradability fine we are able to install gpus of our choice but from researching and reading several post on this and other forums it does not The most interesting this is that gaming machines thats are non upgradeable cost twice the amount of this machine or even more shouldn't a upgradeable version cost more or are be been smiled upon by the Gods, as such it does not seem as if this machine will be able to support the 8800 cards due to their size and the heat produce my these cards. Is it that this laptop will only be able to support the mid size cards such as the 8400, 8500, 8600 and possibly 8700. And to refer to this as a gaming machine is that a bit of a over statement given that these cards are our 7600 and maybe a lil better with direct x 10 support. Given this is it that Asus plans on shrinking these cards? or was this a promotional stunt? HOW MUCH UPGRADEABLE DO U THINK THIS MACHINE IS???

Um answer to C90 thread 198710983741987348971234 is:
You can upgrade anything in it, so its very upgradable. As what you can upgrade too.... Well in the cpu/gpu department thats tricky due to heat and power restrictions.
But the E6600 should be the only cpu you need in this thing till its life time is over and its time to move to a new machine.
In the GPU department wich is more likeley to be something that needs upgrading if you expect desktop performance on a notebook machine. the 6800gt and 2600m are the best two cards right now. the 8700m is not going in here its 35w so its already over the limit.
But its also a 80nm process build. If they shrink it down to 65nm I bet you will see a low end 8800m in here probably somthing like a 8800gs.
For the money you cant beat it, and its still very upgradable. But you cant expext a MXMII 15.4" notebook to house the strongest cards on the market because its just not going to happen. -

In addition the 9x and HD 3x series will be soming out in 8 months or so and you will be able to upgrade then.

yeah i'm tempted to wait but, my current pc is just a piece of junk, and i'm not really a huge gamer. I use it to play MMOs lol... and the 8600 should be just fine for that
. but what i play, is FFXI.
and FFXI is pretty much a ps2 port, it doesn't take advantage of your gpu at all. it's performance lies solely on your processor. So i'm REALLY pumped about this conroe going in a mobile machine -
I think the non-upgradeable cost more because it sells as a premium right out of the box. It's like if you were to buy a high-end Alienware or Dell XPS desktop for a high price, yet you can build yourself one that is faster for much less. (Hence the reason why I never bought pre-built desktop) But it's the same concept of what the C90 is trying to do here. It's a barebone system that offers the user flexibility in upgrades mainly cpu/gpu.
I think maybe the first generation C90 we might not see an 8800 yet (unless die shrink or something) But I'm sure as it grows popular, and MXM becomes the standard; its successor will be able to support more high end gpu's. My biggest anticipation is the support for 45nm. I wish Penryn was already out so C90 will be able to support it. -

I may think about guildwars, ffxi, or wow once I get the c90 since I can play at leisure while im at work.
FFXI is not all cpu bound tho, its definitly a game that uses the gpu... I used to play it on my geforce 5700 ultra and pentium 4.... it lagged when alot of the heavy weather effects hit me untill i upgraded to a geforce 7800gtx. -
you know what's retarded though, a 4 year old ps2 port needs a 7800gtx to run smooth.
i keep weather effects off, and shadows off lol.... my 9800 pro can barely push this thing :/
just standing here with nothing going on i'm getting 26fps -
i'm so wired about this laptop it's hard for me to sleep. so i've been camping quu domi the gallant for the past 2 days trying to get sarutobi kyahan, 3/3 on claim 0/3 on drop atm
i got o kote yesterday 1/1 claim 1/1 drop -

PaperCut
Shiva
Rank 4 Bastok
40 WAR
35 THF
That was about 2.5-3 years ago when the game first came out. Guys in my LS were among the first NA players to 60.
The more I think about it the more I want to get back in! -

the 5700ultra was not exactly a super high performance card (even tho back then it was.... and expensive) it played the game at max really well it was only like the sand storm weather and somtimes alot of people in a single area that caused me to have issues.
I do kinda miss the game alot, im sure if I see it now it wont even be close to how I remember it from my child memory. I just hated how you cant solo so your always forced to be in a party. I dont have enough freetime and freedom in my life to devote to a game like that (beast masters can solo I guess... but thats a diffrent story) I was nearly max lvl dragoon and dark knight and id sit in jeuno all day with nobody wanting to party with me because the clases sucked end game and the game was ruined for me. I finally restarted as a red mage and wow,, I had parties all the time and also liked the job alot more.
If i was to play again id probably go black mage ^^ be suicidal with my ultra high damage magic burst. Im sure the game has been evened out more now via all the patches that surly took place from then to now, plus there have been several expansions.
It was truly a work of art in my opinion it just had some major flaws. and you really need to have "no life" to enjoy it in my opinion.
World of warcraft is abit more pick up and play friendly, sure it has the same soul eating end game material when your in 40 man raids but you can find a party easy and you can solo, plus the penalty for dying and stuff is not there and you can always just do pvp or reroll new guys. -

FFXI has always been the best MMO made, in my book (by my own standards, so not really up for argument), because it worked you like a dog and paid off just as much as the work was worth. I mean the thrill of mining one piece of virtual darksteel after 3 hours of mining was so great. And that one piece (plus your other drops) would last your supplies for days. Then the level up system made every level worth it. The rare monsters were great, the party system was awesome. The cons were always that the game was so damn hard, but I liked that, because the rewards you get are so entirely worth the effort (as a gamer, obviously someone who doesn't play games would think we are all loony, but then again a lot of them do anyway =P). Working to the bone to get to 30 and really earn your second class, and burning your way to 25 for your chocobo license, and then actually GETTING the license (a herculean task itself) was amazing. WoW and those other games are good because the end game is so deep and well balanced it really is like playing as a hero in an epic warcraft battle, but FFXI kind of plays off of that saying "The journey is more important than the destination." Which I have always believed. Sorry about all of that, but I got really nostalgic there for a minute.

I was way beyond a 2nd class or a chocobo licence the errors came end game for ffxi.
Plus the rare monsters really upset me because the JP servers get to see them spawn like 1.5 seconds before you wich always gave them the advantage.
Thats a big plus for FFXI tho is that NA and JP are together. Other games have them apart. As sombody that speaks japanese thats a great thing. -
dang all this jiberish!

so anyway, the c90, yea, its cool....
AlexOnFyre-the C91 should be released about a month after the c90.

What gpu can be expected from it? -
WOW YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST TALKING ABOUT MMOs IN A LAPTOP THREAD LOL
WAY TO GO LOL. what are the major improvements will be seen in the C91 over the C90 if any. And will it be the deciding factor for say a extreme gamer? And what are your thoughts about the Both systems?:GEEK:
-
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
There will be no major improvements. How could there be? Before the release of the C90 we can't even be sure that it will need ANY improvements. We do know that the C91 will be a less powerful system than the C90, so heat and battery life factors may be better. If you are A TotAALLY l33T GameZORR (if someone calls themself an extreme gamer, they are asking for it.), then probably neither of the systems is right for you, you should be getting the Clevo D900C, or the M570RU, because if you are really ExTREEEEMEEE in your gAmeOORing then you don't mind spending 4-5k on a new system. This is a system for those of us that love gaming, but do it on a realistic budget.

well thats the thing am a poor boy thats buying a laptop off his lunch money and allowance (sad, how much u guys think id get for selling an organ lets say a liver and a kidney would that be enuff) all i want to know is that ill be able to play fear and doom and bf 2142 on highest settings or with good level of eye candy and not have noticeable fps problems! because all this upgrading thats available seems to be relative or should i say with a certain parameter of gpus. -

Thanks
Ghost, I think you should probably go ahead and consider the C90, once the reviews are out, if it is as good as it seems to be, it may be a godsend to you. -
