Is there a chassis or monitor difference between Newegg's X1 and A1?

Here is Newegg's X1; unlike the Best Buy X1, this advertises a 1680 x 1050 resolution and P8400 processor, so I'm thinking that the chassis and monitor are the same as the A1. If the chassis and monitor are the same, I would like to buy the X1, add a 200GB hard drive and Raid 0 them, then add a T9400 when the price drops.

I'm pretty sure the chassis and monitor are the same, after talking with some people who own the A1 and comparing it to my recently purchased X1.
Btw, is it really possible to add a 200 GB HD and swap out the processor on the X1? I might be interested in that down the road.

Do you have the Newegg version of the X1 and 1680 x 1050 resolution? If the chassis are the same, then yes because I see no reason why they would cripple the motherboard.

Yes, I own the newegg one with 1680x1050 res screen. The only reason I had doubts was because I figured that they only put in 1 HD slot since they don't encourage people to swap stuff out. Also, is upgrading the processor easy to do? (I assume it voids the warranty, but that's to be expected with such a big upgrade)

Are you sure? I bought mine from newegg, I thought the only one with the 15.6" screen was the Best Buy one.

edit: even newegg says their version of the X1 is 15.4 inch, unfortunately, I can't accurately measure it right now.

I don't own an X1 yet, but since it's a new laptop, the CPU, hard drive and etc. should each have their own lid to access them. After locating them, it's very simple to replace and add things. From pictures of the X1's underbelly, I haven't seen any stickers covering the lids, so you can probably keep the warranty as long as you change everything back to default before shipping it out.

I think the X1 and A1 should have the same monitor since they both have 1680 x 1050 resolution.

    Probably. :)

Just a note, changing/adding HDDs is not a problem, but changing the CPU voids the warranty.

Plus, I don't think it's needed. Even though it's not high-end that CPU should be enough for most uses, even most games (since they are typically GPU-, not CPU-bound).

I'd be interested to know if the X1 has the hard drive caddy for the second disk. Didn't see anyone specifically address this. And no bluetooth in the X1, eh.

No you have to get it from the Asus store.
