Is there a difference between GentechPC and Powernotebooks' S96Js?

SO I'm still deciding whether to buy from Gentech or Powernotebooks. I was gonna go with whoever gives a student discount and I already no powernotebooks doesn't offer one and Gentech still has not responded yet-- but if Gentech doesn't give a discount either then I'll just go with whichever gives better service (powernotebooks so far since they responded), although Gentech is closer.

Anyway my question is about the S96Js: they both offer the X1600 of course, but are the two different from one another? On the Powernotebooks site it says:

    " ATi RADEON X1600 w/up to 512MB (256MB dedicated + 256MB w/HyperMemory - requires 1GB System Memory)"

    While on Gentech PC it's:

"ATI Mobility X1600 256MB PCI Express"

So the difference in numbers concern me. Is the powernotebooks S96J's
X1600 of greater quality or is it the same thing? And I intend on getting 1gig DDR ram either way if that helps.

    Thanks

Both have the same graphics card. The X1600 has 265mb built in, and can use up 256mb of system memory (called hypermemory).

its the same thing.. Gentech's spec simply just lists the dedicated portion while PN's site shows the max you can get with hyper memory.

Ah okay thanks. How do I get HyperMemory?

And off-topic question: How long does it take usually to get a response from GenTech? It's been over a day now since I e-mailed them and I'm getting pretty anxious.

Email Ken directly [email protected]. They usually reply back quicker on weekdays.

Hypermemory is automatic with the x1600 card.

If you talk to Ken on the other forum, hes a lot better with answering your questions. Gentech is an awesome vendor and has great service. Im happy I went with him as hes a nice guy and knows what hes doing. The HM right now is locked on all X1600's to 512MB, and until Intel releases a new BIOS, the HM will be engaged at all times.

GenTech charges about 1200% less for adding Arctic Silver. :)
