I'm not sure how, but I wrecked one of my recovery DVD's. It doesn't read anymore.

When I sell my laptop, I want to DBAN the drive which will nuke my recovery partition...so I need working DVDs!

    Is this possible?

Call up Asus support and see if they can send you out a recovery disk. They will probably charge you a fee for the discs and shipping.

    Check out FileShredder.

It allows you to wipe both existing specified files/folders and free space (where those old deleted files are hiding) using various selectable security algorithms, up to high level DOD as I recall.

Use this on (first) your free space, then on any files/folders containing sensitive info... when done, reinstall using the recovery partition. Presto - secure wipe with fresh reinstall :).
