I've never used bluetooth before on a laptop and was wondering whether it would possible to use a remote control via bluetooth to control the DVD player on the w7j?

Is there such a thing as a bluetooth remote and can it be configured for a dvd player on a laptop?

thanks in advance for any insight.

I havent seen any i'm afraid, the closest you could get is a bluetooth wireless keyboard, which could be configured to work as a remote.

I read the first few sentences and saw that this is a guide for PCs, not sure about notebooks.

Apparently Windows Media Player and Winamp have options to turn on a remote control. It also seems that Bluetooth Dongle (whatever that is, I don't know lol) works and you just need an adapter or card that allows it.

Did a Google search for bluetooth remote laptop....came up with A LOT of results.

There are some bluetooth remotes in the world.. I'm not sure if any are physically on the market yet, but I have tested one or two of them.... I know one was from Logitech and the other I believe an RCA Prono or something... neither are cheap even in IR form, so I doubt that's what you're looking for.

... IR is a good choice, but better for a system like the W2 which has CIR (consumer infrared), which has a 30' plus range........ normal IR on notebooks works up to like 18"... Wifi is another option, but I'm not sure what's available there, but certainly expensive.

One option would be to get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo.... I got the new logitech mx3000 laser combo and the keyboard is all heat sensative and nifty for multimedia control. If you want something smaller, you could get the DiNovo keyboard and mouse set from Logitech... .there is a sepereate number pad that comes with the kit and that pad itself can be used for control of media player........ I'ts not much larger than the number pad on a desktop keyboard, but it's nice and thin and has an lcd on it to tell you track information.

... I really think that's your best, if not only solution at this time.

Hey, this might seem like a stupid question but what's the difference between a bluetooth keyboard and mouse setup and a cordless keyboard and mouse setup?

In reply to your question, I know that some mobile phones can be used as a bluetooth remote for your laptop, I know my Sony Ericsson does if that helps. Beats shelling out extra cash to buy something that is really only useful for bling value.

Um there is no such thing as a stupid question, lol

to answer your question...a bluetooth setup has better range than a cordless setup, and iam not possitive but bluetooth also has less lag. Other than that, i dont think there is much difference. Its just the newest thing and everyone wants it. lol

Bluetooth also has more security features than standard radio if I'm not mistaken.

well I don't know if you'd be willing to go as far as this

but my cell phone (Sony Ericsson W810i) is a bluetooth remote for any computer that it can connect with. You can control any music program (windows media player, itunes n such) wiht the keypad.. or you can even control the whole computer.. move the mouse, click, right click with it.. so theres another alternative!

i've found this phone to be VERY useful espeiclaly for music.. especially snce u always keep ur cell phone with u, u never need to look for the "remote" its just ther with u!

That's a cool idea - I've got an LG 8100 Bluetooth phone so I wonder if that'll work. I'll have to check it out once my computer arrives.
