Since the F3JP was sold out at Newegg, then pulled out, there is no $1298 F3JP to my chagrin. However, it had the 1200 x 800 resolution anyways, so I wasn't bothered too much. Now they go for $1500. However, I found one for $1399 at ZipZoomFly (reliable, bought from them before):

Is it a good deal? I'm not sure. It's more expensive because it was WSXGA+ with a resolution of 1650 x 1050. Is this too high of a resolution for a 15.4 inch? How is the F3JP compared to the A8s? Does it suffer the same problem of annoying fans, and does it have a delicate casing? How is the screen on the F3JP? I'm not a hard-core gamer, but I appreciate good frame rates so I am shying away from the 7400s and the X1400s from HP and Dell. If you own a F3JP, what are the main cons? Thanks for the help guys.

Seems like a good deal in my opinion.
Many of Asus notebooks have a WSXGA+; high resolution screens, like the Z96j, V1JP, and the G1.
The build quality is good, just like many plastic notebooks, especially like HP Compaq.
You will get decent FPS from the X1700. -
U could make the 1650 x 1050 resolution smaller to your liking.
Who told you the A8JS had annoying fans? There almost whisper quiet while gaming. F3JP has a whisperquiet fan 2.
Make sure 15.4 inch isnt too big or 2 small for u.
F3JP AND A8JS has a solid metal like frame. It has is very sturdy, it will not twist ripple or anything.
F3JP has a little better construction due to size.
Beautiful bright screen.
O and the geforce go 7400 aint so bad. CHECK THIS OUT: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=92443
if you arent going to shy away from the geforce 7400 i recommend the dv9000z which is very sturdy great screen, good resolution and everything. Its ranked #1 laptop and it is very affordable.
REP POINTS ARE APPRECIATED. <<<<<<<<<<< -
I heard the A8's fans are always on no matter what, and also have annoying DVD drive noises. I thought the F3JP might be similar. I don't know.
I'm really debating between this and a dv6000t thats customized similarly but has a geforce 7400 and 2 gigs of RAM. I'm impressed with a dv6000ts look but I have never seen an Asus laptop in person. That is why I am rather hesitant. -

I am not going to try to push you to one or another, but I am simply going to state that Asus products especially in the 15.4" and 14" notebooks offers some of the best, if not the best performance, styling, quality all round.
You can see this in many models, the V1JP, G1, S96J, Z96J, F3J series, and the 14" notebooks A8J series and W3J series.
Asus is offereing X1600, X1700, Go 7600, Go 7700 in their laptops while most other brands are offering Go 7400 or a X1400, which is Half as powerful as the above cards.
In general the GPU's mentioned above get roughly 4000 points in 3DMark05 and 2000 points in 3DMark06. (on average)
While the X1400 and Go 7400 get half that.
Go look at the W7J, it has a 7400, there's a review here on the site. Plus other brands offer X1400 and go 7400 in their laptops. -
Ok thanks for the help man. I'm sure Asus is awesome, but it always is hard to make a decision with all that money for something you've never seen in person before, ya know? I'm probably gonna pick this laptop up.

Yes I understand your situation, many here go through the same thing. Luckily there is a lot of information right here in the forums regarding these laptops. Plus there are resellers here willing to give information about all these laptops plus answer questions.
Have a look through the Review Section, and find some reviews about the F3 series and anything else that may interest you. -
i like that deal.
But if you save up 300 for the g1 you get
1gb more ram
a little tougher
7700 go
40 gb more hd.
I like that more.
F3jp and a8j are closely related but i do think the f3j has a few things that make it tougher. there are bands on the lcd that make the lcd lid more sturdy.
But overall its the same thing same plastic same color etc. -
Not a bad deal, but the G1 might be worth it...

yes it is a good deal, I have bought one Asus F3Jp core 2 duo 2.0 ghz. 2gb ddr2 667ram 160gb hdd,atı x1700 512,9cell battery.....it is better than my vaio sz...but not the screen

In regards to ZipZoomFly.com, I have read an overwhelming number of complaints as of late. Check resellerratings.com for a complete list of negative feedback. I once knew of ZipZoomFly.com to be a very reputable distributor, but now, many people have said it's one of the worst places to purchase anything.
