I'm not too familiar with the specific SKU you are inquiring about, but all the UL30 notebooks should be sufficient playing divx movies, DVDs and youtube videos without any issues. Keep in mind that the SU7300 CPU in the UL30A-QX059C is a dual core CPU and even single core CPUs found in netbooks are able to run the tasks you listed except HD youtube videos.

Oh thanks alot for the reply, im a noob :) So HD videos on youtube are more demanding than a normal dvd disk?

Which would you personally take the asus , or acer timeline3810TG SU9400 cpu with switchable graphics, radeon 4330 ( which i wouldnt probobly use )

Battery life and divx is what i use on it , and school papers. What would YOU do ;) im so confused which im gonna take....

HD youtube videos taxes your CPU more than the regular/standard videos and normal DVDs. Even with my Asus 1008HA (equipped with an Atom processor) netbook, I'm able to play DVDs from my external DVD drive without lag, so I'm pretty certain both the Asus and Acer would do equally as well.

The UL30A has been on my "to buy" list for quite some time, so I will be biased if you ask me which notebook I would purchase. However, putting all favoritism aside, here's a few pointers I think you should note:

    1. Buy what you need/want. If there are additional features and/or hardware you know you won't use, then there's no point in having these extras.

    2. Asus usually offers a 2 year global warranty while Acer only offers 1. This may come in handy, especially if you live in an accident-prone environment (eg. if you have small children or live in a college environment).

    3. Keep in mind that Asus warranty services in Europe, especially in the UK are quite sub-par (according to many forum members). I usually advise people residing in the EU to stay away from Asus notebooks for this very reason.

On a side note, the SU9400 in the Acer Timeline is only100MHz faster than the SU7300 in the Asus UL30A. You'd probably won't notice any difference in speed unless you're running benchmarks.

It's 8 cells. Asus claims that the UL30A can last for up to 12 hours, but realistically, it's more like 9-10 hours with moderate wifi usage (according to NBR's review.
