I just got my G71g-A2 in yesterday and I am trying to use the HDMI port to connect to my desktop monitor for extended desktop display. For the life of me, I can't get this to work :(

    It's FN-F8 for ASUS owners.
If that doesn't work, go to your Control Panel and look for the Nvidia settings. Make sure that the display is enabled.

Have you updated your drivers? You might want to update them from Laptopvideo2go.com.

    bump!

i'm having the same problem. using the *new* notebook drivers from Nvidia. hdmi is plugged in, monitor is set to hdmi.

in the nvidia control panel, it gives me the option to clone, or use one display, or go independent, but no dice. clicking on "apply" brings up a dialog that asks that i've changed my settings and do i want to keep them.

cycling through F8 brings up laptop > hdmi > laptop + hdmi, but nothing seems to go.

    G71G A2 + Benq 241Q

    any ideas?

The drivers from the nvidia website game me some issues. I think it's better to stick with drivers from laptopvideo2go. Their newest drivers should work, if not go with WHQL versions.

hmmm ... i'll have to try that soon. more strangeness:

    1. rebooted the box, and suddenly Vista is installing updates. go figure. must have something to do with the monitor. when i get to the desktop, the display is slightly vertically stretched, and Vista has suddenly detected an external display. (what, like it didn't notice before?) fixed my notebook ratio manually.

    2. still can't get the monitor to work just yet, but display properties tell me that my notebook monitor is 1920x1200, but my external Benq is 1920x1080! (which it's not -- also 1920x1200) don't know where to change this setting -- Vista isn't letting me right now.

    3. Fn-F8: selecting HDMI + laptop. vertically stretches the laptop display. Benq monitor goes bright blue, then black.

    4. Fn-F8: selecting laptop only. laptop display reverts. Benq monitor goes bright blue.

    5. Fn-F8: selecting HDMI only. laptop display goes black. Benq monitor goes bright blue.

what's driving me nuts is that i can't get *anything* going on the Benq!

    --------------

okay, HUGE oversite. HDMI cable wasn't fulled jacked into the monitor. yeah, that's a noob move.

i can now get both displays working -- however, only at 1920x1080. grrr. still working on it.

    -------------

G71G identifies the Benq as a 1920 x 1080. can't adjust resolution in NVIDIA Control Panel. strange... DVI with my Dell is fine.
