Can any owners comment on their success chaining a micro-hdmi to hdmi cable to an hdmi to dual-dvi cable for external monitor use?

OK, I love the form factor of my 32VD..but this touchpad is starting to ME OFF!
It is Elan and not Synaptic and for whatever reason it does not seem to have the option to disable when typing so my palms keep brushing against it.... -
That being said this may work: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html or I am told this sometimes displays Win 7 keys: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html however, I have not used either program.
WinGuggle supposedly also works, but again I never used it. -
-
Isn't the sticker key on the charger?
-
-
Blog talks about how ASUS disabled the palmcheck feature in the registry. I enabled it and I got the options back.
Still not as nice as Synaptic's "disable while typing" but better than nothing at all! -

First of all I want to thank the many people who are contributing to this forum - it's become my one source of information as to the UX32VD!
I was wondering if the UX31A's soldered RAM will cause throttling or will the 4GB be enough? -

planning to get the ux32vd
any comments on the battery? is it comparable to the ux31a which doesn't have the dedicated graphics? -
Mine claims to have 4.5 hours remaining at 71% charge..whatever that means
The UX31a doesn't have 1080p either....
EDIT: ux3[2]a, typo, my fault. Misread the earlier post as 32 not 31. (Curses to these infernally similar and non-descriptive model numbers) -

My UX32VD arrived from Amazon today!
I think the overall build quality is excellent. The HD display is gorgeous. I was worried about reading text at such a high res on a 13" screen, but even my tired eyes can read just fine.
I checked and there is a tiny amount of backlight bleed in the lower right corner. But, in order for me to see it, I have to have a black background and sit in a darkened room. Under normal conditions you'll never see it.
I was also surprised by the quality of the sound. Really good for such a slim laptop. I played a blu-ray rip of a movie at 1080P. As expected the picture quality was excellent, but the sound was respectable.
I deinstalled the McAfee trialware and installed MS Security Essentials. With this setting it takes 82 seconds to boot to the desktop. Not that great.
However the time to resume from sleep is about 2 seconds. By the time you raise the display up, your looking at your desktop. Very nice.
It gets a bit warm. Sitting on my lap, it got a little uncomfortable.
With nothing but Chrome running it's using 2.28GB of RAM. So, I think 4GB's is going to be a bit tight. I have a 8GB SODIMM arriving tomorrow from Amazon.
By the way my original ETA from Amazon was June 28. I got an email from Amazon yesterday saying the Asus has shipped
So far I am very satisfied. This is going to replace my aging Thinkpad X200 very nicely. -
I couldn't wait for the UX31A and got a Sony Z2 from the Sony Outlet store (i7 2.7GHz, 8gb RAM,128gb SSD, 1080p, dock) for ~$1211, including tax).
Might spring for the next UX32 incarnation after three years (that's how long I use my notebooks).

I spec'd out the original SODIMM at 1600MHz with a latency of 11.
I have my fingers crossed. -

would anything happen if i mixed the ram with an 8gb 1333mghz stick.
-
Initial impressions:
- Wow, that screen is really, really nice.
- It's a very nice looking laptop. Build quality is excellent, keyboard is good, power given the form factor is fantastic. Games are very playable.
- The hard drive is SLOW. Like, I'm spending tons of time setting it up just sitting here staring at it while the HD light is solid on and it's barely responsive. It's embarrassing that there was not an SSD option for this machine. Apparently I have to install one myself. And more memory. 4GB and no SSD absolutely destroys performance on this machine, and honestly makes it kind of miserable to use.
- It's chock full of Asus crapware. Desperately needs a clean windows install.
With a good SSD and 10GB of ram this thing is going to be the best thing out there. Without those two things, it's kind of disappointing. -

I just did a clean reinstall of Windows and don't know if I should download the Elan or Synaptic driver.
EDIT: Tried identifying it with newest AIDA64 and it worked. It's an Elantech touchpad on the Swedish version, possibly rest of europe too. -
Just got my UX32VD.... looks awesome
The screen is really beautifull, I haven't notice any "bleed light"...
I have just a little issue with the corner of the screen... like the right side isn't really like the left.
Ex: left side looks more like ~| than right side |_ but it's really minor and I'll probably no return back to another one just for this.
(sry for my poor english)
I'll post later maybe some pictures of the problem.
If you have any question feel free to private message me and I'll copy/past your question and my answer on my next post because I'll probably not look all pages when I go at home tonight..
(like +20 pages each day on this post Oo xD) -

Every time someone says these are back in stock and I check, it's already out of stock. These are selling like hot cakes. So many complaints already though.

Any word on a UK release for these?
No sign on Amazon.co.uk but they've been listed on .de and .com for a while and seem to be shipping elsewhere
Thanks -

how long is the boot time of the hybrid SSD HD?
is the SSD 24GB or 32GB?
am i correct that Windows 7 is the only thing installed in the SSD HD?
thanks!Click to expand...
1. It takes 36s. to show up the login screen in battery mode (without ac connect)
Add 5/8s. to be on desktop after enter your password and have your desktop full functionnal/charged
2. In disk management you have:
Disk 0:
200Mb EFI system (not show up)
186.30Gb NTFS for the system (Disk C: on system called OS)
254.14Gb NTFS for data (Disk D: on system called DATA)
25Gb Recovery partition (not show up)
Disk1:
4Gb Master partition
25.82Gb Master partition
Both not show up on system
Windows 7 seems installed on C and the SSD is only used to cache files in order to have fastest resume and application launch (I think)
At the moment on disk management all of my disk have 100% free space
Only C: have like 75% free -
For a sleek and fancy design of prime zenbook(UX32VD in my case), you would want a bag that will resemble as such.
Has anyone found a bag with a single strap that is sleek and simple which they would like to share? -

It is no longer available but you could find a similar one. -
Do we need to do anything special with the hybrid drive when re-installing Windows?
I saw they have that driver on their site for ExpressCache.
Do we need to configure Windows to put its swap file on the cahce or anything? -
Before I open the back, is there a way to upgrade the 4gb ram on ux31a?
can someone post pics of backlid removed? -
I shall be getting my UX32VD on Monday..

Back on this page: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...d-ips-screen-ux21a-ux31a-ux32a-ux32vd-51.html
But yeah, now that they have been released in the wild... maybe things have changed?
I really wanted a 31a, I have no use for the video card, but I NEEDED to be able to run more than 4 GB of RAM...(Also, needed a 256GB drive at least, and was scared off by the bad reviews of the stock drive)
Something that mildly concern me is that ASUS is known to release a product then release a "refined" version a month or two later.
I don't mind NOT having a touch screen, but I do wonder what their refresh will be in a few months.
Regardless, I already waited 6 months for Ivy Bridge, can't put off a new laptop forever, in the computer world that "next upgrade" is always 6 months over the horizon...you'd be waiting forever... never able to pull the trigger. -

Waiting on gaming machine and want UX32A.
Never taken this long to replace a machine ever. -
So I just spoke with ASUS and they say there is absolutely no way to know ahead of time what SSD you will get..it is a 100% crapshoot so assume you will get the SANDISK and be pleasantly surprised if you don't.

My ux32vd will be here today
and my samsung 830 & 8gb corsair ram will show up on monday.
Questions:
1) I'm assuming that having non matching capacity ddr ram will disable ddr. Is this true and what are the disadvantages of this?
2) Should I condition the battery in some special way?
3) since I'll have my ssd, should I disable the caching on the 32gb drive? If so, would formatting it and using it as a photoshop scratch disk be a good idea? Also would formatting that drive void the warranty at all?
4) anyone know if this baby will run mass effect 3?

Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2Click to expand.... I don't know about formatting the ssd cache but it's all software based, so formatting both drives shouldn't pose a problem with warranty. Asus will ask you to restore the main drive to stock (which restores the caching software) before you send it back. It will probably run mass effect 3 on low settings and a decent resolution. I think that game runs on the unreal engine which scales and performs reasonably well.

Since you're getting another SSD you can just install windows on the new one and use the built in as a storage/program disk.
This is not necessarily concerning you, but you can actually install Windows 7 on it and use it as an OS disk. That is while keeping the regular HDD (or even an SSD) as a program/storage disk. I would definitely recommend for you who use the HDD that comes with it, as it speeds up the computer to a whole other level.
My Windows 7 boots in 8 seconds while installed on the Sandisk i100 SSD. It also gets 7.6 Windows Experience Index score. Feels generally lightning quick. Couldn't tell it apart from my OCZ SandForce SSD on my stationary computer, expect for slightly slower transfer speeds.
To do this, look in the earlier posts in this thread by jedighost and me.
Mass Effect 3 should work very well with this computer, perhaps not in the highest settings with AA - but up to medium settings no doubt.
I always charge the battery fully, let it empty completely, and then charge it back up to full a couple times with new batteries. This is a high tech lithium-ion battery that shouldn't require much conditioning, but it doesn't hurt to do it like that in the beginning.
Cheers -

I think tomshardware has a benchmark comparing that. I would charge battery up to full before I use it but I never do that because I want to get it running as quickly as possible.
