I allocate 10GB of the Sandisk SSD to be the swap file. Haven't figured out what to do with the 20GB of space.... Maybe I'll use it for downloaded files....
I just looked at the trackpad difference b/t the UX32VD vs the MBA 11.5 (13"). The MBA's trackpad click is very solid, whereas the UX32VD's trackpad feels mushy before it registers the click sound. The Asus stops registering clicks along the sides of the track pad at about 3/4 of the way up (and you have to press very firm) whereas the MBA register all the way up to almost 7/8 of the way up.
For me, the biggest disappointment of the UX32VD is definitely the trackpad. But I still love the laptop!

Ugh, that flex looks bad. Is it just me, or do others agree?
-
Yes please let us know on how to solve the BT button.
My GAWD and I thought my trackpad had a defect that I almost considered returning it. But it seems like I'm not the only one who thinks the trackpad feels loose when tapping on it. Yes it rattles a bit and makes a noticable bump sound when you touch it. Kinda depressing and sad for an expensive device like this!! -
That video looks bad, but I tried pushing very hard on the keys, and there is absolutely zero flex. Why would you be pressing in between the keys?
-
What is the BT problem?
---
I checked the BIOS, nothing in there about the video card. I am very surprised and wondering if there isn't an "advanced mode" a lot of these OEMS have a keyboard shortcut that opens up the "real" BIOS interface. -
I am having troubles with a bluetooth mouse. It connects after a couple of failed paring attempts, but as soon as the computer is put to sleep and woken back up the mouse no longer works with the laptop and I have to delete it and go through a few more failed pairing attempts before it connects again. Anyone else having this issue or a suggestion as to how to fix it?

I have found that BT drivers often suck...horrifically.
See if you can find newer drivers, perhaps go directly to whoever made the BT radio?
Or use the little mini-USB BT adapter that came with the mouse (if the mouse had that) -
Damn. I am experiencing the exact same thing using WIDI too. Random disconnects every 20-30 mins followed by no adapter found.
Thanks for the input. I changed the 2.4 channel width to auto like you did and it's much better now. Still not what I should be getting but good enough. Hopefully this helps with the WIDI disconnects too.
I originally noticed it when viewing HD content on youtube. Slower load times and videos stopping to buffer.
Was getting 7-9Mbps download with the default channel width on 20, getting ~18Mbps with it on auto now. Should be getting around ~30Mbps though. -
Wow that is flex is quite bad. I have no flex on my keyboard. Also no blue light. You may have a lemon and should get it exchanged.
When I go to my tray and click Show Icon notifcations I get this "This notifacation icon is currently not active, it will be shown the next time it gets active.
Please help, so I can update the drivers/BIOS.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I have the exact same issue, my trackpad was also loose on the left top corner but firm on the right. This rattle noise was annoying. Returned to amazon, replacement here on Tuesday.
-
Anyone know what Torx size you need for the external screws?
-
5, the smallest one
-
Just received my UX32VD from NCIX (Canadian version). I can confirm the following.
- None, or very very little flex on the keyboard. Really nothing to complain about.
- Silent, no issues with the fan, but have not updated the bios yet.
- Yes there is light bleed at the bottom. For me is a non-issue, but I believe Asus could do better.
- Ordered SSD and 8gb ram. Should get it next week. -
use the below site and maximize the page(F11) mines pretty bad but I can't really see it unless its all black. Movies?
LCD Dead Pixel Test Backgrounds - Black
I'm debating if i should return it. For $1300 it should be perfect. Thoughts? -
Try falling back to the Win7 standard Microsoft drivers, instead of Intel's (or whoever's) Bluetooth drivers, and report back to us please. You can do this by uninstalling the Bluetooth drivers from Control Panel's "Programs and Services" section.
You will loose some Bluetooth services and speed probably, but it won't matter for a mouse. You can reinstall the drivers later anyway.
I would like to know if this helps. -
I've been out of this group for awhile but Notebook Check gave the UX31A a 90%. To compare, they gave the UX32VD an 87% (Sandisk U100 SSD prerelease though) and the Samsung Series 9 (13") an equal 90%. Impressive! Still personally waiting for the Lenovo Carbon X1 though before making the jump.

Yeah, soooo stuck between the UX31A and SS9...

same here. is any of these two available in the UK yet?

Having interesting issue with the sound on my UX32VD.
While playing music I try to plug my headphones in mini jack, and when I do so, music keeps playing through the speakers and my headphones at the same time. The only way when my lappy recognizes the headphones is when I not fully plug my headphones. Can someone confirm that? Is it driver or motherboard issue?
Thank you in advance. -
I agree with you johnx7, for $1,300 of your hard earned money, at least the display screen SHOULD be perfect with no back light leakage. Asus leaked the info about their wonderful full HD IPS display before the UX32vd series was released and it's a huge selling point. So, they should at least honor what they advertise and I never saw them report "ips display...with backlight leakage." If they did not honor what they advertised, I say return it for a full refund.

i had this problem in my asus ROG laptop and is not software related since my G51 was out of warranty i didnt fix it, initially i thought it was realtek software but i uninstalled and installed and nothing, i think is something to do when u plug in the jack it doesnt recognize that theres a jack plug in thats why it wont divert all the sound to the jack
-
I can't see anything wrong with that link but maybe that is because I don't have the problem once windows start..only during boot.
-
Got mine yesterday.
There little to no flex on the keyboard unless you press very hard.
The screen is great.. there is very small bleeding with the backlight at bottom, but no blue tinge at top right corner at all. Very good...however
Just found a dead pixel...What is their warranty policy for it? -
I don't see that on the amazon US site and they are selling it now for 1138.
-
I'm having a problem with my microfone :/ tried downloading the newest drivers from Realteks website, but it still dowsn't work. Anyone got any ideas or been having the same problem? I have a ux32vd
-
I thought the box had a Zero Dead Pixel warantee sticker on it
-
Details are in the warranty booklet that came with it. If I remember correctly, they have a zero bright dot guarantee (dead/dark pixels do not count) that you can leverage within 30 days of purchase if you want to send it in for repairs.
I have 2 stuck pixels and 1 dead on my replacement to my initial machine, which had a bright green pixel (exchanged at Amazon). Given what seems to be the norm with ASUS' warranty service, I've chosen to overlook this issue and not send mine it. If anything, I am going to return this one to Amazon as well because I am having a wifi problem that I can't seem to remediate. -
I've got the exact same problem as the guy in the video!
It looks like the whole frame is twisted. Therefore the laptop flicks on the table. It causes the screen to shakes when I'm typing.
Here's a video I made:
Asus Zenbook UX32VD unstable and twisted frame - YouTube
Combined with the flex and blacklight bleed, do you guys think this qualify for an replacement? Especially the fact that the screen is shaking duo to the flicking is really annoying.... -
Well, I just packed up my UX31A to send back..it certainly had much less issues then the VDs seem to have but as somebody else said a few pages pack for this kind of money you shouldn't have to deal with problems.
-
Oh gosh.. was searching for the warranty policy on their website with no result and ended up mailing them. I just received a reply where he asked if the pixels is being black or bright.
The policy was next to me all along in the small book..
Anyway I notice a very short line of black line, so I assume there have to be at least 2 pixels beings black. According the warranty book my issue should be within their warranty policy
Waiting for his reply -
I have the same unstable minor surface at the buttom... but are you willing to return because of that?? that's a silly little cosmetic error... if it bothers you that much try to unscrew the plate and bend it carefully in order to align the surface that might save you some time instead of returning the device!!
By the way does your charger indicator turn green/yellow while charging? I don't think mine works? it's completely off and sometimes i don't even know i'm on full charge, instead I have to check windows batt indicator. -
My indicator is yellow while charging , green when done.
-
Thanks! That means mine is completely "broken" should I return this?
-
Have asus send a new one (charger)
They should, I imagine, mail one out. If they want you to mail yours in first refuse and polity explain that would leave you with no computer which is unacceptable. -
Logically speaking if there's an type of issue with this laptop it should go back. $1300 is a lot to pay for something that has a defect. That would force Asus to fix the defective issues. As much as I love this laptop it's going to go back.
You never hear of black light bleeding, issues with the fan, or chargers with the Macbook. I'm not an Apple fan but I'm seriously thinking about switching over. -
I agree
this really sucks as I was looking forward to getting this computer. I would be paying ~$1600 with the upgrades and possibly ~$1800 if I purchased a warranty on it. I don't want to pay for a computer where I will have to "live with" problems!
-
How do I update BIOS, my ASUS live Update thing isnt working.
-
well low and behold ive finally gotten a full quality build after the 4th time , no keyboard flex , no backlight bleed, no loose frame , no fan issues , finally!!!!!
i said i wouldnt give up, still sucks thou having to get 4 replacements until you get a quality build nowadays is kinda bad especially for the money
-
Can you post a quick summary of the problems you had, and what you did to get the replacement?
I don't have keyboard flex so far as I can tell, or loose frame but I do have some blacklight bleed when in a dark room.
I figure, for $1.3K might as well force ASUS to do it right. -
Oh yeah, Apple..the company that put 30 million phones into the wild that you couldn't hold in your hand while making a call..that company.
-
How do you get them so fast? Don't they need to really look at the unit before considering sending you a new one?
-
True, but those are phones. When it comes to laptops now, build issues we ain't seeing...
-
well i already listed the problems and a couple pages back you can read all the problems ive had but mostly the ones ive just listed a post ago including one that had a dead pixel ..fresh out da box! , and what to do to get the replacement? well where i live i got 2 weeks no frills replacement guarantee without any explanation necessary and if they have to send me 20 more until they get it right and yes they pay the return shipping , its all on them , but to theyre luck they got it right with the 4th replacement , eventually i wouldve had heads roll at asus headquarters if this wouldve continued nobody messes with me when it comes to my hard earned cash
p.s: over here we work with express shipping , once again all on the shops bill not mine, hell the mail guy was like how many laptops are you buying , i was like not how many but how many times returned till they get it right
-
Very good point.
I think that if the problem is trivial, like backlight bleed only being noticeable when in a very dark room on a black screen, then to return the device would be pointless. However some of the fan issues and keyboard flexing (if too obstructive) could merit a replacement device in my opinion.
-
UX32VD????? Could there be hope?!
-
apparently there is
all i need now is my 830 512gb ssd and 8gb mushkin in da mail and im ready to roll woot!!! -
You may have just inspired me to follow your lead. I was about 5 more complaints away from giving up on the UX32VD and starting to chase the Gigabyte U2442V(or N)! I live in Northeast US, how hard do you think it would be to swap out laptops till I got the "quality" one?
-
well patience is the key and depending on how many "duds" have been delivered to your retailer of choice
-
Which retailer do you think would offer the best speedy return service?
-
well that i cant tell you thats something you yourself must experience and research ;(
