My UK order for UX32VD is now September 17th!! Seriously considering another model now.

The Sony S13P (I saw the 13 with 768 screen and it was awful). The Gigabyte has a awful screen as well.

There are no good ultrabooks around it would seem! They all have either crappy glossy screen at 768 or awful fake matte screens unlike the beautiful ASUS with dedicated graphics :(

Just a bit of background. My older laptop is one of the 1st generation Envy 14's for comparison about 2 years ago.

After reading the issues I find very little I dislike about the touchpad. I find it odd how people complain so much about it. It's certainly better than the Envy 14's.

Saw some complains about keyboard flex. Didn't seem to be an issue at all. Same with the fan noise, it never even gets close to the envy 14's fan noise.

As for the screen, since my envy 14 didn't have the radiance screen, this one blows it out of the water. I finally got to see some of the backlight bleed people talked about around the bottom of the screen when it was totally dark and it's a black scene. I find that it's not a serious issue as you will not notice it 90% of the time during common use. I encountered this with my Samsung LN46750A Tv which I purchased years ago.... so I guess it's a common IPS thing. Other than that the screen is pretty impressive. I'm especially happy with the Matte.

And lastly, this thing makes my Envy 14 look like a fatty for real...
Envy 14 does have discreet graphics still though. But given I never really played many games on the go, I can live with the HD 4000.

Out of curiosity who did you order with? I've an order in with the Laptopshop and as of a couple of days ago the delivery was September 3rd.

Mind you most places were quoting that so if yours has changed maybe mine has as well :-(

Hello, first of all, i want to thanks to everyone for their experiences and help. I did follow this thread for months and it helped me to choose UX32VD/vengeance8GB and 256 crucial M4 and i couldnt be happier

i decided to register and ask for help after few days of googling and trying to figure that out on my own.

I would like to set somehow middle click on my touchpad.

Right now i have two finger click to right click from asus smart gesture, but i would like something like. Three finger click for middle click, is it possible?'

    Thank you

Welcome! f you haven't already, i would give Elan drivers a go. I've had much better results than the asus drivers ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad

For three fingers try here... I'm not sure he figured it out yet.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/638848-elan-registry-editing-any-experts.html

After doing some testing its pretty obvious that the Asus driver is no where near as good as the Elan. I uninstalled the Asus smart gesture and I am going with the Elan drivers I got from this Asus download page:

I originally ordered from insightuk but they said they do not know anymore when they will get stock. They kept putting it back by 1 day so I cancelled.

I then ordered it from pcworld business, who order on request.

I backordered with Amazon on August 8. Still waiting. Everytime I talk to a service rep, they give me a "we have no idea when it will come in stock" response. Annoying, but nowhere around me has a physical inventory available, either, so I'll get to keep waiting.
(Plus I've already payed for it via Amazon gift cards in order to get some gas discounts, so I'm stuck with them.)

I wonder why it's not in stock anywhere? Could be that they are fixing some issues or just ran out of some parts? ux32vd really seems like the best ultrabook on market with that gorgeous display and discrete graphics.

I wonder the same as well. I'm leaning toward the UX32VD right now. the IPS screen and resolution nails it for me. And I also saw the UX31A review on Notebookcheck, showing the UX31A can drive two external display and laptop display all at the same time. This is the exact feature I need. I'll be using it for work and I need multiple screens for my daily work. Whatever the issue is, parts shortage or actual issues, I hope they fix it soon!

If I ever do get it, I'll replace the stock HDD with my own Crucial M4. And I'll most likely disable the 620M graphics for my day to day usage, just to save power.

I love my X220T, but the screen resolution is just too low. Thought I can live with it. But it's just not working. I was going to buy the new Lenovo X1 Carbon. But turns out that Lenovo put a TN panel on there, although not a crappy TN. But still a TN, which has vertical viewing angle issues.

Interesting - I'll check with Laptopshop on Monday to see if the 3rd is still the current date.

Rather irritatingly I missed the last one they had in stock by just a few hours when I ordered last week.

Do not order from jittles. They're in the same boat as everyone else. They guaranteed shipping by the 20th which is why I ordered but now they say they're experiencing delays. Do not order from them. They do not have it in stock.

There is a Sony SVS13 with a 1600X900 screen, but it still doesn't compare to the Asus'.

If you check out the Sony Outlet, they have clearance sales on the Z2 that make it price competitive with the UX31A and it has a wonderful FHD (though not ISP) screen and a more powerful cpu and better battery life, plus a sheet battery that gives you 10-12 hrs. Without the extra battery, it weighs 2.5 lbs, 0.5 lbs less than the UX31A. Has pros and cons but dramatic price reductions make it an alternative to consider.

Then there's the Samsun 900X3C. It has most of the virtues of the UX31A - and a better trackpad with latest drivers - and though it's screen's specs don't seem competitive with the UX31A's, it's even brighter and, honestly, you can't see a lot of difference between 1600X900 on a 13" screen (I own both) and the Sammy's is IPS as well (though they call it "PLS").

Short of that, the HP Envy 14 Spectre - which also has its pros and cons - has a wonderful screen, great audio and striking design, though it adds 0.8 lbs of weight. Plus you can upgrade its mSATA SSD.

More choices than ever before. Even though the Asus appears to be the single most desirable, that may have a lot to do with its unavailability. To my knowledge, none of the models mentioned above have been cited for QC problems.

When comparing the touchpad drivers, are we talking about the latest ASUS Smart Gesture beta V1.0.26 vs. the Elantech V10.5.???

I upgraded the ATK package prior to installing the beta version and I really like how it performs on my UX31A.

I've tried the other Asus versions, Elans' and this beta and I believe I'm going to stick with the beta for now. Feels like I have a little more pointer range and the gestures are pretty smooth. I'm by no means a qualified tester so any thoughts on this is welcomed.

Edit: Seems like I'm not on the latest .29 version. Will give that a go.

Don't say that, sure they don't have it in stock at the moment, but neither does anyone else. Doesn't mean they're not legit, they already refunded me the $15 for not delivering on time, they seem like at the very least they're trying the hardest to get it in stock (probably because they're a smaller company so this is a bigger deal to them than it is to say Amazon). They said they'd update me on the status of their order on Monday. One thing I can say about them is their customer service is top notch, everyone's been very pleasant and helpful. Oh, and it's by far the cheapest you'll find it with the included Asus warranty and no tax (and free returns like Amazon).

I didn't say they weren't legit, I just said they don't have it like everyone else because the order guy said they did. And same, they said they'd update me. Their customer service is good because they respond to every email individually. Oh yeah, and they refunded us $15, making it even cheaper.

In my case I was not trying the beta drivers. I have installed them now and will give them a try. So far they seem a lot better than the other Asus smart gesture drivers that I tried.

try the drivers which ive included in the other thread. and set the palm tracking to maximum and feel the difference. WAYYYYY better than before. the cursor no longer floats around when typing. gestures work as they should as well.

    Hi,

Is there any way to disable the touch-function on the buttons on the touchpad? I have an UX32VD, but I guess it's the same for all of them. Either a disable-function or manually define the edge of the touchpad.
I haven't read all pages here, but I've tried to search for somthing similar.
    It drives me crazy!

If I do a quick click on something it counts as dobbleclick(touch + button).
If I do the same with right-click, the menu just disappears instantly(it counts as right-click + one tap).
If I move around with one hand, and tap the buttons with the other hand(or another finger), it counts as multitouch and does all sort of random things.
If I move some windows around, holding the button with one finger and moves around with another finger, it also counts as multitouch and does random movement of the window.
And the list of annoying things goes on...

Everything else with this notebook is just really great! I hope there is a solution to this!

    -Morten

I tried the beta Asus Smart Gesture drivers and they are better than the ones that came with the laptop but I still don't think they are as good as the Elan drivers. For one thing you can't set the palm tracking size and they just don't seem quite as smooth.

I too have the X3C and will probably end up keeping it primarily because it just doesn't have any problems and secondarily because I can upgrade the SSD. I really wanted the 31A to work but I can't wait for them to fix all of the problems. I also noticed in the BB store that the finish near the keyboard seems to be wearing out or otherwise staining. I tried to see if it was just dirt but it didn't come off. I heard people here mention something similar and thought it was just their imagination but apparently it is not.

The Microsoft store had a couple of them yesterday. $999-20% sale, so $799. Was tempted, but was concerned about that high res of a screen on only 11.6 inches.

Bought a UX31A yesterday. Turned it on for 2 minute, then closed it. It's going back. There's about 8 stuck pixels and some sort of a smudge about the size of a pencil erase that's behind the top layer screen.

Are that many stuck pixels common?

No need to be concerned, they don't carry the FHD version..only the 1366x768. I know because I bought one on Thursday from them and returned it Friday. Even their site now says it's 1366x768.

On another note I see the MS store now carries the i5/128G version of the UXC31A but since the sale is over today it is probably too late for any of the stores to have them in stock yet.

WOW..and I just noticed their version of the 31A is not FHD but 1600x900..first I have seen of that. They are crazy with that price for that screen. Unless maybe ASUS is giving up.

My point was more along the lines of "I've already sunk the cost of the laptop into Amazon gift cards, why would I spend that amount AGAIN to purchase it elsewhere?" (Not to mention spending that amount on Amazon would take me years.)

Amazon has said they've been in contact with Asus for a few weeks about getting more laptops, so this seems to be an "Asus can't ramp up production fast enough" sort of problem. If I had to guess, they were probably expecting the UX31A to be their primary seller, and the UX32VD was probably more of an afterthought, so they didn't give it as much production effort. I'm guessing the demand for it kind of took them by surprise, to be honest.

My UX32VD from pc world business (UK) now says shipping September 3rd. I might be able to get the U2442 sooner.

Is the 1.9ghz i7 fast enough? There is a suggestion to get a full M processor but looking at the benches the i7 does pretty well!! I don't benchmarks for a living

The only PC game I have played in the last few years was WOW and I haven't played that in 3 years. I do want the nvidia graphics however as I want to keep the option open to playing it (as well as the intel 23.967 bug)

How is the noise with this?

Great idea. But one difficulty is that the DRAM chips use BGA packaging, which is difficult to de-solder/re-solder even when the needed special equipment is available.

The other problem is adding the corresponding hard-coded SPD data. This problem appears to be easy to solve. The UX31A BIOS currently contains hard-coded SPD data for these SODIMM mudules:

    8KTF51264HZ-1G6D 1D1
    HMT425S6MFR6A-H9 N0
    8KTF51264HZ-1G6D 1D1
    HMT425S6CFR6C-PB N0
    1D4G1-Z H46821FSJ4D1
    EBJ41UFHBCF0-DJ-F 0
    1D4G1-ZDH46215FTJ8D1

It would be easy to overwrite one of those with the data from an 8GB module, but it is not clear to me how the BIOS knows which chip type is installed. If it is based on a strap selection made at the time the PCB is populated, then overwriting the SPD corresponding to the currently soldered chips would work.

So I have been waiting for a spare power adapter for my UX32VD. Looks like this is a new one that is EXACTLY right for it.

ASUS - Peripherals & Accessories- ASUS Slim 65W Adapter

Problem is, it's only listed on the Global site. It's nowhere to be found on any of the usual reseller sites. Amazon, NewEgg, XoticPC, etc.

What's worse. I can't seem to find a part number. Asus doesn't have any tech documents for it, and the site didn't list one anywhere I saw. But definately would like one of these. Still haven't little to no problems with my DB71. It's been a winner.

Do the registry edits work with the Asus smart gesture drivers? When I said you couldn't adjust the palm size I was referring to the Asus driver. For me the élan ones are overall better but there are a few things I like about the Asus ones. If you can use the edits I might take another run at them.

Did anyone try to replace the standard RAM chip on UX32VD with 16GB RAM chip, e.g. Cisco 16GB chip???

I guess that would be quite cool to have 18GB RAM in total :D

BTW. I somehow cannot find any UX32VD being sold with Windows Professional OS, though Asus on its website clearly states that Win version is available.... ???

If you're patient, you can get in on the $15 Windows 8 upgrade, I believe that the upgrade gives you Windows 8 Professional.

For what it's worth I checked with the laptopshop and their stock (including my order) is confirmed to comein on the 3rd September as well. Ordered an 8G ram upgrade at the same time.

    Cheers

Lol, I might not even take advantage of that and skip Win 8 altogether, I am really turned off by it.

I ordered from them after they told me they have it in stock. Now, they are saying that they don't have it and don't know when it is going to be in stock.
