Hey,
Although I'm quite embarassed... I REALLY need a hand here... well.. at least a virtual one (help, please)!
The thing is, I'd bought this new thermal compound OCZ Freeze, in order to use it in both my CPU and GPU.
However, after removing over 30 screws (and I ain't kidding!) from my G1S, the damn plastic back cover wasn't "willing" to be removed! In the sense that, somehow even with no apparent screws on it, the back cover remained highly attached to the notebook!!!
Then, after some hours of hardwork and a with a nasty headache starting to show its bad effects... I decided to gave up trying to do it by myself and seek "professional" help instead! I'd even called a friend, but he couldn't do much as well...
And that's why I'm posting this thread here: you're the only ppl who can help me!
Well, because I couldn't remove the entire back cover, I ended up just cleaning up my CPU and spreading the new thermal compound over it... but I'd like to know someway to remove the whole back cover, cause then I'd be able to apply some thermal paste on the GPU too.
Anyone can help?
Thanks in Advance.![]()

Now that you voided whatever warranty you had left on this unit i think i will help you. I really do feel sorry for you and hope that nobody else looses their warranty by doing the same.
to expose the mainboard you need to remove the top cover not the bottom. to remove the top you first need to remove the lcd and the anchors. after that you can remove the keyboard and screws under the kb and then pry off the top cover. Good luck. You should know that if you are unsuccessful in this you will be left with a paperweight and asus will and should refuse any service. you may want toi turn back now and just let it be as it is working and in proper order. -
Awesome laptops Notebook Evangelist
agreed the heat benefits are not worth killing a g1s turn back and be saved

Aren't there a couple of screws on the "top" side, underneath the keyboard?

Mate,
first of all, thanks for your help and concern about my warranty... but the fact is simple: I've got NONE.
Because living outside the US, screws up the whole "concept" of warranty... specially if you live in South America.
Mainly cause, although ASUS claims to have a 2 yrs worlwide warranty, the fact is this "worldwide warranty" is not local, thus if my laptop ever brakes down, in order to make use of this warranty I'd have to send it to the US (and pay for all the international shipping costs) and after that, IF and WHEN they decide to ship it back to me, something very "bizarre" would most likely happen:
1) When it arrives here through the shipping company, the governement would apply a 70% Import fee over the current market price of the notebook, which btw, I've already PAID when I bought it on the first time... But for them that's not important... cause every single time something enters the country borders, it's gonna be taxed... and doesn't matter if the product was just send abroad for repairs, or anything like that...
2) Usually they charge much more than the real price of the product when applying these taxes...
Then, if my laptop brakes... I'd better fix it myself or throw it away and buy I new one... cause I'd spend WAY MUCH MORE only to get it repaired through the warranty!!
Unfortunately, that's how things are here... Bet you guys didn't know that.
So, I could cry about it OR make this freaking thing work in a lower temp... and I'd rather choose the second option.

About the "removing the keyboard" part, the G1S has no screws on the front... so when I removed the LCD, I notice that all the screws were placed on the back and on the sides of the laptop... What should I do, then? -

Worked for me on an A6km, hope it helps. Mine had the 3 clips above the ESC, F8 and DELETE keys, use a credit card or something to push them in and lift the keyboard, mind the ribbon cable on the under side of the keyboard. -
G1S_Noodle.
How did the battle go? I'm really interested in seeing pictures of the GPU/heat pipe assembly if you ended up getting the cover off. -
I have an idea to increase the power of cooling of the vga...
