I'm about to purchase a laptop so I thought I would let everyone know what by using an American Express credit card for the purchase you add a year to your warranty; in my case it was literally doubled. I'm pretty sure most Amex cards apply for the program (it's known as the " Buyer's Assurance Plan", it's free and it's actually very reassuring. It covers 1 year following the manufacturer's own warranty so in my case it will double the one year Asus warranty. Even if you then purchase an extended Asus warranty ( not the Best Buy or Circuit City extended warranty), it covers the laptop a year after that as well. So, for me at least, that's a pretty awesome deal...

Just thought I'd let you know -

Great tip, I always use that coverage and yes it is any Amex card. Check out the notebook warranty guide I wrote for a couple of other credit cards that offer similar protection.

Andrew B, Your guide should be a sticky!
AsusTek covers the portions they sold for only 1 year, if purchase +1 year, Asus now = 3 years, EXCEPT in USA??
Items installed by self are only covered by OEM manufacturer
In my case HDD = 5 years!
Many mfr void warranty if user opens, but I thought Federal law saying still valid superceded that! Have heard if the original items are restored, normal buyer pulls out their changes, warranty is supposed to be honored.

    1. Would you add a small blurb about Barebones policy? I read Asus links, but I was unable to purchase an extended warranty w/i 1 month of purchase data, thanks to shipping delays (>30 days since payment) NOT delivery which it really should be!

    2. Know anything about coverage if purchased thru PayPal with a credit card (Visa etc)?
