I did a fresh format...installed everything on the CD...what now? What else should I install to optimize this lappy?
What GPU driver should I use? Can someone give me a DIRECT LINK to the download (been having problems finding the right one)...also what program can I use to UNDERCLOCK the CPU when I'm not gaming just Browsing and MSN?
The fan seems to be on ALL THE TIME...it's a little annoying, as I read reviews that say it only comes on when you're gaming...I have 2gb of RAM and the Hitachi 7K100 in it as upgrades.
The temperature readings using Mobile Meter is CPU = 47-48C idling on desktop, and HD = 52-53C idling...are these bad temps?
Where can I get a program to monitor the GPU temps?
Common I need some help!!!

NHC to under volt. NHC does other goodies too.
-
laptopvideo2go.com
use the modded inf file -
are you running vista? if so, you may have problems with most underclocking software like nhc or rmclock.
-
I'm running XP...holy shat I didn't know there was so many people on this forum! I was using Notebookforums b4 haha waited forever for a response.
ERRRRRRRRRM....so i just type NHC in google and BAM?
What about my idling temps guys? Is it normal?
I played some WoW...CPU jumped to 65-67C
Seems kinda hot :O -
I also want to lower the Fan tolerance...if that makes sense. Raise the temp for when the fans turn on
cuz right now it's on ALL THE TIME -
Hehe, that's actually nice and low for gaming.
-
really? dang...seems hot for me haha dunno why
any way to decrease HDD temps too?
i touch the bottom and it's HOTTTTT like almost all the time
only 53C but still
i can feel it on the palm rest too -

Especially the cleanup section.
But it's not about installing it's about removing, mostly.
"What GPU driver should I use?"
The one on the CD which you already installed.
"Can someone give me a DIRECT LINK to the download (been having problems finding the right one)...also what program can I use to UNDERCLOCK the CPU when I'm not gaming just Browsing and MSN?"
It does that by default if your Windows power scheme is "laptop/portable". If you want to undervolt (which I don't recommend if you don't know what it does) use RMClock (my first suggestion) or NHC (my second).
"The fan seems to be on ALL THE TIME...it's a little annoying, as I read reviews that say it only comes on when you're gaming..."
Probably what they mean is that it steps up the RPM when gaming. On most current notebooks the fan is on almost all the time but on low RPMs. Maybe you're more sensitive.
"The temperature readings using Mobile Meter is CPU = 47-48C idling on desktop, and HD = 52-53C idling...are these bad temps?"
No, they are normal.
"Where can I get a program to monitor the GPU temps?"
It's probably in the driver. Rightclick desktop, properties, settings, advanced.

Drink less coffee. -
Get these config files for the NHC. Just change A8H to A8Js on the files names and inside them (edit with notepad). My temps, according to NHC, are 47º in idle using the config files I mentioned and with a rpm of 2333 and dynamic switching. You can hardly ear the fan working. BTW, NHC only works in WinXP, not Vista (the release for Vista is taking too long...)
-
Only the HD temps seems a little high but they are operating well within limits. HDD can operate at about max of 55/60c depending on the manafacturer and model.
-
i see...the HD temps are always hovering around 50-52ish...even when idling. gaming it's around 53ish..seems kinda hot!
is it worth it to underclock? save battery life/less heat? -
bumppsssssssssssssssssssssss
-
if you think it high try using NHC, unless you already are, if so maybe you should invest in a cooler. My temps are listed below but varies between 1-3 degrees depending on the temperature of the house.
-
mind letting me know how the temperatures were like BEFORE the cooler? -
ya ummmmm....temps don't seem to be going down much....
temp of CPU when i'm playing WoW if like 70-73C....hard drive is at like 52-53....seems kinda bad for the system?
especially the HD, it's almost always 50+ even when i'm not doing anything
I have been experience several blue screens too.....when i'm playing wow....
bad sign?
i also need prog to monitor GPU temps...can't find a non-trial version of everest -
Those temps are within normal range. Some CPUs even go up to 80-90 degrees... it doesn't damage the CPU in any way. These CPUs can withstand temps of 100+ degrees before suffering damage.
As for your HDD... ~50 degrees is okay, but a little on the hot side I guess. If it goes up to 60, I'd be worried... but 50s are okay. As for your blue screens, that is something to be concerned about. Do you ONLY notice the blue screens during gaming? -
ya....seems so...occurs mostly when gaming at least, maybe like once it blue screened when i was watching a show? don't even remember too clearly...
i'm thinking of investing in a laptop cooler....shuld i? and any suggestions? was looking into the zalman nc1000, they make high quality stuffs. -

Yup, nothing wrong with getting a notebook cooler, good ones will reduce temperatures and make the notebook more enjoyable to use.
Here's how I recommend people to search.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=laptop+cooling+pad
From here you can find and select which ones you like, find additional information, reviews, and compare this to what others here have for their notebooks. -
lol, your laptop will work just fine even if you don't do anything; stop worrying about it.
I'd add in a suggestion to get the latest forcewares with a modded inf from LaptopVideo2Go if you want to use PureVideo; that's the only way that I could get them to work.
Also, having used NHC and RMClock, I must say that I prefer RMClock since I only use it to undervolt, and NHC has so many other things. -
RMClock to undervolt your CPU, although your current temps are normal already.
You may run into stability problems if you don't know what you're doing in RMClock, but you will not damage any components. -
My experience (just a few minutes) with RMClock is that it can't detect the A8Js motherboard, thus we can't do anything with it. Maybe we have to programme something, but I'm not sure. With NHC and the config files that you can download here you can undervolt and reduce the fan speed. NHC is not Vista compatible, for now.

well i just purchased a Zalman NC1000 and i'm soooo happy i did!
my main concern was the temps of the hard drive, i was hitting 55C even idling on desktop. and it wuld always run 50+ even if i wasn't doing anything.
i placed the laptop on the cooler, and INSTANTLY it was running 10C lower, I didn't even power the cooler on!!! the aluminum top conducts cold very well staying cool almost all the time. with the cooler on my HD temps dropped to 30C!, and my cpu runs at a cool 38, i highly recommend this cooler!
looks like there's no need to undervolt or anything, thanks for all the input!
Just got a A8Js...what now?
