    Hello,

Yesterday I bought a G50V from bestbuy, I instantly fell in love with the laptop, however, today I turn it on and the hard drive appears to be dead.

I went online to bestbuy.com to see if they had more in stock in my store, to my surprise they had a new model in stock for the exact same price but it wasn't on display.

So to my luck I went to exchange it and told them about the new ones, they didnt even know they had them, so for the same price I got a 9800gs, faster procesor, centrino 2 and a bigger hard drive :).

So im glad it broke lol. Now im even more in love with the laptop, (hope this one doesnt break). however Ive got a few questions.

First, does this thing have bluetooth? windows can't seem to find it.
Second, does this thing have a built in TV tuner? Theres an antenna out on the side but I cant seem to find anything specific in the manual or some program to watch tv.

And third, why does this thing come with an S-VIDEO to composite cable!? Ive looked everywhere and the port is not there, the cable was also on the first g50v I got...what gives?

well thats it, just wanted to share my experience. Hopefully someone can answer my questions.

    Thanks!

    Wow~ lucky you :D

As for bluetooth, there isn't any on the Best Buy models.
For the TV tuner, you'll need an adapter like this and connect it to your cable box or antenna. Try the Asus website for the TV tuner drivers/programs.
Not sure why Asus has those s-video cables... maybe they're trying to get rid of some?

    thanks for your replies...

Its a shame it does not have bluetooth, it would have been perfect :p oh well, Guess I cant complain with that price. I might get one of those micro usb bluetooth adapters that barely stick out so you always leave them in, I saw them at bestbuy too.

As for the tv tuner, so....this thing is just like a bridge or something? meaning that the tuner is not built in? Cause I already got an antenna with that input... If I still need the external tv tuner then that sucks :p

And lol at the s-video cables... I don't even have anything with s-video in anymore hehe.

I think the tuner is indeed not built in the US models.

S-video cable is included with all new notebooks regardless of whether they have the port. Saves on logistics I guess.

Can you bench 3dmark06 for us? Id like to see how the 9800gs pairs against the 9700gt.

1280x1040 I think is the default, you do not have to change anything just run the program and it will run at the default res as long as the monitor can support it.

I have some vantage scores in my review we can compare against, but they can be much higher with physics drivers up and working, I ran it without them.

unless you connecct it to an external display the default resolution wont work, as your max res is 1366x768.
when you post scores please include its breakdown sm2.0, sm3.0 and cpu.

    thank you for your time

just ran 3dmark06 with an external monitor at 1280x1024, default everything.

    Final score: 7683

    SM 2.0 Score
    3550
    SM 3.0 Score
    3242
    CPU Score
    1998

Im trying to post the ORB link but it wont let me make it public, according to the page the drivers are not signed or verified...

That was in normal mode, I cant run turbo or extreme mode since when I was uninstalling the bloatware i accidentally uninstalled some asus programs.

Ill reinstall direct console later when I get home.

    Cheers

ok the 7811fx (9800m gts) with same cpu gets around 8500-8700 3dmark06.

so if you can( and know how)use ntune to set same clocks as the 9800gts (600 1500 800) and run again it will be very informative.
