Omg is it ever sleek and sexy, took a few pictures, just formatting the drive and setting up windows xp pro... Not sure why I didn't choose quick format... but oh well its formatting none the less. Should have it all set up within an hour or so. Only one complaint so far is that the optical drive is a little loud when its loading stuff, it might just need to get broken in and warm up though.

Nice choice!
Hope you are happy with your purchase! -
Congrats
The OD isn't that loud, it sounds like a typical one -
Lol I have never had a laptop before, it just sounds like its making a lot of noise lol. Oh and how does the bluetooth work in it? I just install the software and away it goes? Not that I really need it on there but was just curious. The screen on this thing is amazing now that I have played with it a bit. Only problem I have had is I couldn't install the drivers from ati... I tried but it didn't seem to want to let me, said to contact my notebook manufacturer. I never tried installing the vid card drivers that came with the laptop so maybe thats all the problem was caused by. The machine itself is larger than I thought it would be... not in a bad way, just the screen is bigger and nicer than I thought it would be and I am loving the widescreen... wish my computer monitor was widescreen as well.

congratulations!!!!! -
ATI's catalyst drivers don't install on Mobility chips. There are a few options.
- First, you can try these drivers: http://www.ati.com/products/catalyst/mobility/. I haven't done this before, just found the link right now.
- The second option is to use the Omega drivers, which are hacked Catalyst drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/.
- The last option is to try to get drivers from Asus' website. Here's a linky: http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Z70V/VGA_XP_2K_050708v.zip.
These aren't in any particular order, although I suppose the safest route would be Asus -> Ati -> Omega.
Cheers. -
Yeah first set I tried was the omega drivers... then I tried the ATI, then I tried the Asus lol. I went backwards, but oh well, going to try the omegas again once ffxi is done installing and downloading all the files it needs to run.

When you have a cd inserted and being read any laptop will make alot of noise. Aside from that the z70 is almost silent. If you think its making alot of noise you have been reading notebookforums too much.

Congrats on your first notebook, Z!! You couldn't have made a better choice.
The Drivers CD should take care of your video card easily. I just installed the new ATI 5.9 Mobility Catalyst drivers on my Z70va. They seem to be working very well. You can get them at www.driverheaven.net.
Have fun with your new toy!!
Just got my new Z70Va
