Really an incredible machine, im using it right now.
I'm busy updating n stuff, so ill post benchmarks later.
But heres a quick list of loves and hates
Love: Design, screen (yea its really good, dont worry about wxga), touchpad, speed.
dislikes: heat (See below), speakers
The heat is understandable. instead of the chasis getting hot, the air is hot, so leaving it on my lap is quite comfortable.
Again, ill give you guys updates later.
Id give it a solid 9/10 so far!
p.s. Thanks eddie from geared2play.

Cool! I'm picking mine up at the FedEx depot on the way home tonight. I also have a 160GB HD waiting at home along with an extra GB of RAM, so I'm hoping to run some before/after benchmarks over the weekend. Which benchmarks are you planning on using? It'll be interesting to compare results.

You can't logically put heat as a dislike of the computer..... mainly because it's not the computer giving you the problem... The air gets pushed out the side and the performance you are creating is creating massive amounts of heat which need to get expelled..... which is 1000x better than being left in the system and toasting your legs and cooking your components. I understand that there's nothing else to complain about, but performance=heat....... you've got to say they did a good job of getting that heat out so that you could enjoy having such a powerhouse in a tiny little 14" setup.... right? I mean, that's life... if there was a way to magically have that heat transported three feet away from you, Asus would have done it, but instead they put it as far away on the edge of the computer as they could.
.. in respect to the speakers-------- it's a 14" notebook..... shouldn't be any better than a 12" regular ratio system from a year or so ago, but somehow they are. Audiophiles like myself require 5.1 setups when sitting at home at a desk with any units. -

Imychajluk, what brand is that 160 Hard drive you bought? How much did it cost you? I'd love to hear how it performs and the differences between that drive and the stock drive. Thanks

hey justin. Its so hard to find somthing to post as a dislike for this laptop!
As you said theres really nothing to complain about, its all what I expected, and overall I am thrilled.

.. yeah, yeah.. I know....
By the way - you don't need to overclock, but the gpu is certainly unclocked from the factory.... stock omega drivers will speed that up to ati's reference spec and should give you better numbers........ but then agian, Asus is considering the size of the system and a certain expectation of battery life... so it might be good to leave it unless for some reason you really need it. -
You can always complain about heat or anything - Just becuase the W3J does a great job of expelling the heat it does produce does not mean it cant be a valid con. In the future, there will be processors that produce less heat and laptops that are faster and cooler.....Pro's and Con's are just personal preferences. By that logic, you could say that "poor viewing angles" on a 14.1 inch cant be a con either - Because all 14.1 inch screens have poor viewing angles and the W3J is still one of the best 14.1 inchers......
Not that I mind heat at all myself mind you -

Tis very true. Lets take a poll. How many lefties are here vs how many righties? Its not a win win situation. Can put the vent on the back ofcourse but then it wouldnt be the same notebook. Then people would complaing that the notebook is not balanced or the palm rest gets too warm when battery charges. There is no solution really xept to have water cooling.

Is there any program that let you decide the fan speed? If the core duo can take 100C+ without being damaged, the W3j should idle in ~65C without any problem.
Just got my w3j refresh
