Just ordered myself a ASUS M6Ne....Finally !
After a month or two of thinking, changing my mind backfliping on my every choice, I have finally got my arse in gear and ordered this beauty.
I found it on one of ASUS distributers sites (http://www.synnex.com.au/pm/ASUS/NB/M6SNe170DD58PG.htm), and I then got my local computer store (www.computeralliance.com.au) to order it in. According to the distributor they only have 2 in stock in Australia, hopefully I will soon be the owner of one of them.
Hopefully be picking it up this weekend !!
I will post a detailed review, pics and benchmarks in a week or two !
Can't wait !

2 Mondays ago I ordered an ASUS M6ne for myself here in the U.S. But it was put on backorder [V]
Hopefully I will get it later today because im taking a little trip to maine. The reason I prefer the M6Ne over the M6BN is because it has an ATI Radeon 9700 Moble. and I prefer it over the M6BNe and the M6BN again because it has a bigger screen with a lower resolution [:0]
Making me feel like it has its bang for its buck
$2500 US........I payed a bit over what you payed underpantman.

I got mine from my next door neighbor who tought me how to build computers. But I dont know what supplier he ordered it from. Any clues????
-
where do you buy them in the US?
-
I just picked up my M6Ne. And I'm over the moon.
The high res screen is fantastic. And its very quick and responsive. I haven't had to much time to play with it yet, but I will write back in a few days with a full review, pics, benchmark results etc etc.
Final price was $3660, a good $150 cheaper than the RRP. Don't know why but was happy to accept it

I'm gonna build myself one of these soon. It'll have:
1.7GHz Dothan
60GB 7,200 RPM Hitachi HDD
1GB of PC2700 RAM
15" SXGA+ non-wide screen
128MB 9700
All this for ~$1600.
I can't wait. Tell me how yours plays new games like FC and UT2K4, and what it scores in 3dmark and Sandra.

ATIlaptops... where are you going to build this ?
can you let me know ... i'm trying to get a laptop with those specs at that price... thanx

Just loaded FarCry. It plays really well at medium quality settings 1024X768 res, while running from battery. This impressed me as my desktop (AMD XP1.6, ATI9600XT)can only get to high quality when I overclock the grapics card. I will report back in a few more days with a more complete report.

Hey guys, I found this site, 3dmark scores included of the M6Ne!
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/asus-m6000/asus-m6.html
Not as impressive as I'd hoped, especially with a 2GHz cpubut not bad, it beat a 3.2GHz P4 and M10 in 3dmark (both of 'em
). I wanna know what kind of scores you're getting? I think 300MHz in cou would cost about 500 points in 3dmark, which means it'd still win
btw, powernotebooks as good prices on what you're lookin' for Pape, maybe a few hundred mroe though.

I just ordered mine.. Cant wait.. the M6Ne with the 9700's are not avail here yet until Mid July.. so I'm just getting the:
M6N with the Radeon 9600
15.4"
1.6Ghz Centrino
1GB DDR 333
Fuji 60GB 5400 RPM HD
DVD/CDRW
INTEL Pro Wireless Mini PCI 2200 b/g
Secondary Modular battery for a total of up to 8.5 Hrs![] yes.. thats right... 8.5 HRS FELLAS! .....[

From all the research I've done over the last 2 weeks... literally 30+ hours... it's the ASUS! best Bang for the dollar.... great Batt Life! and a sweet screen... runs cool... and plays Far Cry.. what more could a guy want?
PS.. the final bill is $2100 CDN plus Tax... $900 cheaper than the Acer Ferrari, which I was considering at first... oc'g the GPU I'll be able to get around 3000 in 3DMARK 03 anyways... I'll post my review by the end of Next week.
Oh Yeah! I am building this unit myself... easy as pie.. and saved me $100... plus I get all the warranty of the orig Barebone.. 1 Year.. and the manufacturer's warranty on the CPU( 3 Years ) Intel Pro 2200 Wireless card ( 3 Years ) and the Fuji HD ( 3 Years )
"Good luck with that!" -
Oh and btw ATIlaptops... the M6N/bn/e does not have the 128MB as an option.. sorry dude..
"Good luck with that!" -
Hey Nitro-X, where are you getting your parts from? I priced out the M6BN with P-M 1.7, 1x512 RAM, no extra battery, everything else the same here in Burnaby for $2199, assembly included.
Also, the only thing i'm worried about on this laptop is the WXGA screen. -
I am purchasing it from my local computer shop. as you are going with the 1.7Ghz Centrino.. thats the diff i think.. remeber I saved $100 caus I'll build it myself.. and the spread between the Centrino 1.7 and the 1.6 is about $100 so thats a $200 diff... basically enough to take into account the RAM I have extra..about $130.. and the Batt... which is about $120.. I am getting a sweet deal I figure....
As far as the screen... I have yet to read any complaints about the quality... everyone seems to figure it's crisp, clear.. and bright....
check out this recent review I read.. hehehe
http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=22465
So Squampton.. I think you are getting a sweet deal too.. perhaps not as nice as mine.. but I think we're only talking like $50 so... Go for it! hehe
"Good luck with that!" -
I don't suppose you could e-mail me the name of the shop you're getting your stuff from? If I was still living up in Prince George i'd probably just shop from your store, but as i'm back in civilization now, I was thinking I could pricematch my parts down to the level of yours [

I also can confirm the unit will take the Dolthan CPU as well.. even more sweetness... tee hee [

I just ordered a M6Ne from www.geared2play.com. 1711 shipped to CA from NYC. Specs:
15.1" SXGA+ (non-widescreen)
1.7 Pent-M 2mb cache
512 MB RAM
64 MB 9700
80 GB 5400 RPM
Intel 802.11G wireless
Anxious to see how this baby runs! -
[Yeah, I have to hold off on my laptop until mid July now, cause they evidently canceled all the 64MB M6Ne's and when they start shipping they'll be 128MB versions
Until then I'll just have to fool around with my new 20GB iPod
Friends don't let friends buy dell.
[/quote]
Sorry to break it to ya but The M6Ne will never ship with 128mb video because the 9700 video card does not build that way. -
i heard from some retailers that ati isnt planning on releasing the m6 asus with a 128mb radeon. Can anyone confirm/deny this? I'm looking for a laptop and down to this asus or a mitac 8050 (winbook mayhem g2 and winbook W series). I really like how you can swap batter and optical drive (featuer the mitac lacks). And the battery life is better, but the thing stopping me from getting it is the video card.

Hey
I am pretty sure Asus will not be releasing m6n's with the 128mb radeon 9700's. The L5GA came with radeon 9700 128mb but it didnt dwarf the m6n in 3dmark 2003. We have been selling these since they came out and so far i see that centrino is not at all what the cpu speed makes it look like. M6N with Dothan 1.8ghz scored just under the L5ga with p4 3.2 800fsb. They both averaged between 2500 to 2900 points on 3dmark 2003. L5ga ceame closer to 2900. Points varied by the different configs. A faster 7200rpm drive makes a world of difference.
All you guys interested in the M6N, M6BN, M6NE, M6BNE you are all going to the wrong places if you are paying over 2000$ for the most expensive config. -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
Its not dificult as long as you know what you are doing. You will need to obtain the schematics from asus on how to take the notebook appart. If you think you will be saving money by buying just the parts think again. Check out geared2play.com you may be surprised to see that they are charging just a bit over what it would cost you for all the parts.
-
Is it difficult to build a barebone notebook compared to building a desktop? I ask becaquse the on only way I would build a new laptop is if I built it since I don't want to pay the extra money and Asus really seems to make topnotch laptops. Do the barebones notebooks also come with the chipset drivers?
-
The prices at geared2play are pretty darn good! Discountlaptops.com has prices that are somewhat close, but they don't have the M6Ne because ChemUSA hasn't released it yet. Both places seem to have great customer service; they answered all my questions and concerns. I'll add more about the laptop and geared2play when I get the laptop. [

I don't think you'll have to much trouble adapting, the screen is great, and ASUS do supply sony with notebooks so its quite possible that your already using some ASUS stuff already, thus I think it will be a switch you won't regret, and your wallet will thankyou as well !

Interesting... My last two laptops were Sony VAIOs but this Asus M6Ne looks great. I'm tired of waiting for my GR300 (1.1GHz P3M) to chug through my code compilations, I want a 2GHz Dothan and Sony's latest (S series) doesn't offer it. I think it's time to switch brands. I'll miss the Sony DVGate software, but that's about it, I think.
Hm... mid-July isn't that far away. Since I mainly want this as a fast development machine, I don't care too much about the 64 vs 128MB video memory, but I want the rest maxed out - 2GB RAM, 7200rpm drive. So far the best price I've found for this config is in the $2600 range.
Another hmm... that's for the M6BNe, with 15.4" screen. 1600x1050 huh? I guess I could adapt to that, after using 1400x1050 for so long. Hm..... -
Oh, wait a sec... All the places that I've found selling them currently only have the 15.4" WXGA screen, 1280x800. I don't want that.
This page
http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=M6N-2&Category_Code=Notebook
has a note that WSXGA+ is not available in North America. What's up with that? Damn these vendors... -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
Thats right. Wsxga will not be offered in America any time soon. Your best bet for hi res is the sxga screens. The only vendors who can sell the wsxga screens here are the ones who stock 50 units of a particular model as it is the only way asus will drop ship non stocked items if even. Geared2play.com will have the 2.0 dothan starting early next week so check the price out. I am pretty sure we got one of the lowest prices out there and have the best feedback and best warranty. We also got a rebate going on 4th of july 40$ off. Anybody get a benchmark on 3dmark2003 for m6bne yett???
-
I'm in the process of doing a very detailed review of my M6Ne it should be done in a day or two. Will post 3dmark2003+ others then !

well, I got my Asus M6Ne (June 16th) and I payed about $2650 for it.(Kingston RAM, XP Pro, car adapter) but unfortunately my vendor got it through a supplyer who was expensive. It was because I got mine customized. Specs as as followed

At the moment I'm looking at getting the barebone M6Ne from one place; with secondary battery, DVD/CDRW, 2200BG, and WinXP Pro that comes out to $1430.10.
I've lined up the prices for CPU/Memory/HD at NewEgg:
2.0GHz Pentium M $639.00
60GB 7200rpm HD $206.00
2GB PC2700 SODIMM $494.00
total $1339.00
System total $2769.10
D'you think that's the best price I can get? -

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/asus-m6000/asus-m6.html -
how's the battery life compared between the m6n with the 9.6k and the 9.7k?
-
yeh i checked it out already
but can anbyody give me exact user time tests for certain settings for the m6n and m6ne
the tests that digit life ran which showed the m6n had longer battery life wuz.. for.. when they used the grpahics card alot or what?
9.7k consumes more power than 9.6k obvioulsy. -
doest he barebone come with teh dvd-cdrw drive standard?
-
re: barebone and CDRW/DVD - I guess it depends on the vendor. Some of them include it, some don't.
Hm, Geared2Play's price is pretty good, but I don't see an option to buy the secondary battery. I guess the difference won't be more than about $30 though.
EtcComputer looks good too. The shipping charge from Toronto to LosAngeles will probably kill that for me, but it's definitely a good option for people in the northeast. -
I would love to have the cash to be able to afford both a M6 and M6Ne, but unfortunately that ain't gonna happen lol. That being said, I can tell you that on my M6Ne I get a good 3.5-4h off one charge when doing general web, word stuff. Around 2.5-3h on DVDs, and around 1.5-2h on games. I don't own a stop watch so I can't be any more specific, sorry
On the upside the battery meter is quite good and pretty accurate. Right now I have 90% and 3:37h remaining. Also the screen is really bright and thus turning it down is actually a necessity which helps prelong battery life quite a bit.
But if battery life is a major concern then perhaps a second battery would be a good investment?

After reading this thread and reading the specs off of the ASUS website. I'm really interested in getting this laptop...Does anyone know where a good place in Canada I can order this laptop from?
Thanks -

Hey guys:
For anyone who is interested geared2play.com is offering the m6n and m6bn with free 512mb pc2700 sodimm or half price 1gb pc2700 sodimm.
The following configuration can be bought for $1229. This price is good for a couple days at most or until we run out of stock.
*******************
Asus M6N 15.1" SXGA
512mb pc2700 Sodimm
20gb 4200rpm toshiba
Pentium M 1.5ghz CPU
All this for $1229
*******************
-
I started a separate topic to record the best prices I've found so far:
http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3408
If it weren't for CA sales tax I could have my dream system for under $2500.00. With sales tax it looks like the lowest I can get away with is around $2666.00. The best I can come up with starting at Geared2Play is around $2716.00, but that still forces me to buy the RAM, HD, and 2nd battery from some other place. (Their 1GB RAM and 7200rpm HD prices are just too high, and they don't offer the 2nd battery.)
-
Well - Geared2Play has been very helpful both in the way of providing info around here, and he offered to match the prices I found for the HD and battery. So I've ordered from him.
And I saw today that SonyStyle now has their S Series configurable on their US web site. It would cost around $4000 for the CPU/Memory/HD config I want from them. Needless to say, I'm glad I discovered this Asus... -
I'm so glad that I discovered this forum!!!
I'm currently considering the Asus M6Ne. I have to admit that I know very little about notebooks. I'm into photography, and I need a machine which I can take with me, but is powerful enough for my photo-editing etc...
To the people that have already bought this machine. Are you still happy with your purchase?
Thank you in advance! []
Just order a ASUS M6Ne- Woo hoo !
