Hi, I just ordered my Asus W3V! Yay, after months of research on this great forum, I'd like to thank all the people that helped, John Ratsey, Bomfunk, ProPortable are just a few of the names I remember. Thanks very much.

I am in the UK and I need a 1GB stick of RAM for my Asus, I'd rather get it now and then it will come roughly the same time as the Asus, I also am looking for a 100GB 5400rpm Hard drive too.

    Any thoughts? Links?

Thank you, I've just ordered the Crucial one, I hope it was the best.

Now my Asus is coming on the same day as the RAM, so I'll need a guide, would you happen to know of a good, proper quality guide for fitting a some RAM into the Asus W3V?

ummm...it's relatively simple. It just a compartment under the laptop, w/ like eight screws or so. You just slip in the module into the slot at a 45 degree angle and then push it in. The memory should come w/ instructions, and I think they are in the w3v manual as well as on the website (has pictures). The only tough part is finding a screwdriver w/ a small enough head for the holes.

    Thanks.

Can anyone confirm that the W3V's manual shows you how to install RAM, Hard Drive and other components yourself?

I know that the M6 and M2 series manuals came with instructions on installing ram into the user accessable slot on the underside of the notebook, I assume that this will be the same for the W3, but if you cant wait visit the asus website and download the pdf version.

As for hdd etc you will need to get hold of the construction/repair manual, as these are not in the manual that comes with the notebook. ASUS doesnt want you opening up the laptop past the first memory model...for warranty reasons. A quick search of this site should find the W3 manual that u need.

Unfortunately, the link in the Asus FAQ to the Z63A assembly guide is now dead. I don't think the other manuals give details of changing the RAM and HDD.

Do you know if the empty memory module (where I'm planning to put my 1GB RAM stick) is easily accessible?

It's easy... no there's no instructions in the user manual. Like someone said before, 8 screws, pop the cover off. Insert the module in at 45 degrees, then press it down until it clicks. Make sure you unplug AC and take the battery out before you do anything.
