Hi guys, I just ordered a G1 laptop. It comes with Vista Ultimate. But I heard it is not so good so far..So i am thinking of using a xp pro instead.. My question is, if i format the whole harddrive for installing a xp pro, can i use the recovery cd which comes with the laptop to install back the Vista Ultimate in the future?

yes. you might get a slightly more comfortable recovery, but my machine came with Vista Home Premium, and the recovery DVD just gave me a base Vista installation. i had to download the drivers manually.
However, as you have vista ultimate, you might have your drivers already on the DVD...
to be honest, i wouldn't worry to much about going back to XP pro. the performance difference is not noticable, and its only about three pieces of software i've had so far that havn't worked properly. two games, and netopia's timbuktu.

That's basically right, Vista is not bad in any way, it is quite nice to be honest, it is just that many prefer XP Pro because there are more drivers, programs, that work excellent. XP Pro will give you more in terms of performance, especially for games. It all depends on which games too.

As for general use, you will not notice the difference, the G1 already comes with 2GB and your notebook will do very well.

So yes you can format your hard drive put on XP Pro, go to the website download all of the drivers. Then if you feel the need to back to Vista after some time, just put in the recovery discs and you will be set.
