Today I just picked up this new laptop from Canada Computers. They threw in a free laptop cooler which was kind of them but probably useless since it looks weak :p

Anyways, this is what I plan on doing with it:
    1. Overclocking CPU
    2. Undervolting CPU
    3. "Restoring" GTX 260M to factory settings (I don't think the term overclocking applies here...damn Asus).
    4. Installing DOX drivers

    1. Using SetFSB, what FSB value would give me the most stable overclock for the Q9000?
    2. Using Crystal CPUID, what voltage, when paired with the CPU overclock, will be most stable?

I would like to have the CPU undervolt/overclock ratio slightly in favor of the undervolt.
Is it possible to set up the two 320GB hard drives in Raid-0?

Is there anything else I should be doing? Yes I am a noob at this so please don't bite.

Yea I tried to read most of that but couldn't find specific values that people with the same laptop are using. It would be good to have a general idea of what works and what doesn't.

Every cpu is different, your just going to have to take it slow and raise it until you get a BSOD or something

in answer to your last question- yes, the two drives should be capable of Raid-0 setup.

yea i got my A1 at 2.35GHz rite now. Something weird for me is that it always loads the OC up at startup. i put it at 1.6GHz once and it crashed, rebooted and crashed so i went into safemode to change it. pretty lame. but i havent undervolted it yet. I can tell you my C2Q goes up to 2.45GHz and my gpu can go up to 605/950/1570 altho the only reason i would do that for is crysis (i play on 1080P @ all high and get consistent ~29 fps for the demo...)

2.35ghz stable? That's really a nice value. I'd be very happy with that once I get my A1.

Oh and a quick question. Do you guys think it makes a difference if I buy now or wait to get a "second batch" Sept build version?

Seems it doesn't matter but I'm also hoping they drop prices as we get close to Sept 15 cut-off for the $100 rebate.

I don't think different batches will have any major differences between them at all.

btw mine can be stable at 2.45ghz but i dont need it high cuz cpu then goes up to 75C...

Is there a guide anywhere on how to do this?
Also, in My Computer, there are 4 drives listed:
    C-149GB
    D-137GB
    F-149GB
    G-149GB
Total: 584 GB <---I know the advertised and the actual capacities will vary, but by 40gb???

Its just the way hard drives are marketed, they are always 10% smaller than what is advertised

If I were you I would delete those factory installed partitions. Seems pretty pointless to me.

Yeah I meant to say I would just go ahead and delete those partitions, so that you wouldn't have to do it after you set up raid (I don't think raiding would delete them). I think Asus partitions the HDDs so that the OS is on one partition and all your junk is on the other partition, but I don't really see any point in this.

And just type in google "site:forum.notebookreview.com asus raid guide" or something, lol.

ahah yea RAID is simple as hell, setup RAID in BIOS then reinstall vista. make sure you dont install driver cd when asked and turn it off immediately even tho it may seem like it will error, it wont trust me. then in windows, when booted up, put driver cd in, and install the selected drivers/programs that you want. very easy. i love how basically you can clean insatll vista like that.

There is a very good point. When Windows goes bust (as it typically does after a while) you can just format and reinstall without worrying about your data. Also conceivably Windows might go down hard, taking the partition with it. Benefits are obvious in this case. In addition less fragmentation due to not having the data in the same place as the applications helps with performance, at least on mechanical HDDs.

Namely 1GB = 10^9 bytes in advertising, but 2^30=1073741824 bytes in the operating system. Hence the difference.
