I was originally researching and intent on buying an Asus A8JS, and placed an order for it. I'm a graphic designer who wanted something portable but wanted an excellent GPU for gaming as well.
After ordering, I browsed the site some more and came up on the F3SV-B1 which was $100 cheaper and offered a LOT more ...so I cancelled the order and placed it for this one..
I didn't really see any reviews on this laptop and I'm flying into this blindly since it is fairly new. Will Santa Rosa make a huge difference?...Can anyone confirm I've made a good purchase?
Stats:
Intel® Core2 Duo Processors T7500 - 2.2GHz 800MHz, 4MB L2 cache

1G DDR2 667MHz (1Gx1)

built-in 256MB VRAM
Turbo Cache 512M with 1G Memory
Turbo Cache 1G with 2G Memory

Any links to reviews or comments appreciated..Thanks.

The A8JS (with similar specs) should have been $100 less than the F3SV-B1 to begin with. Who did you buy the F3SV-B1 from and how much?
-
I am stuck between these two.
The A8JS and the F3SV-B1 are the same price (atless in Canada).
According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
the 8600M GS is about the same as 7700
Personally, I prefer 14" over 15.4" because of the portability. -

I forgot to mention I was comparing the A8JS-4S050E (2g, 160gb) to the B1 (1g, 160gb standard) so with tax and shipping etc I saved about $100.
I prefer the portability as well, however, the comments I have been reading about the A8JS Screen kind of pushed me in the F3SV direction. I need a fairly good lcd since color reproduction and detail is important in my job and the 15" 1680x1050 seemed like the better choice.
The weight difference is 1.25lbs which I think I can live with =) -
AlexOnFyre Needs to get back to work NBR Reviewer
The F3SV-B1 is brand new, so there are very few reviews (if any) out right now. As a matter of fact if you contact NBR and tell them you want to review it they might pay you 60 bucks for it!

If any one is going to buy an Asus F3SV-B1 then buy it from...
ht tp://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=asusnb
It's much cheaper and the 4GB mem up grade from 1GB is only $270.
starting price- $1,579.00 -
Same here, I also prefer the 14" over 15.4". Someone please post a review soon.
btw, you can get the F3SV-A1 and B1 at excaliberpc for $1429 and $1549 shipped.

The price at www.excaliberpc.com is good, but the up grades at http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=asusnb
are good to. Just depends on the buyer. I'm going for the up grades. =)

Goodbye ASUS, hello APPLE.
Shipping delays w/ the F3SV have given me time to think and I have decided to change from the F3SV-B1 to the new Macbook Pro Santa Rosa released a few days ago.
The price is VERY comparable w/ student education discount not to mention standard 2GB ram, 8600 GT (not GS), LED Screen (i'm a graphic designer and screen quality is very important to me), battery time is ~3 hrs., not to mention the sleek chassis and lighter weight, and XP/VISTA capability.
I take a hit in # of USB ports (2 vs. 4) and screen resolution (1440 vs. 1680) but in the end I think the Macbook PROS outweight the cons =P
Thanks ASUS forum, you guys have been very helpful while I waited patiently for the laptop that never came.
Just placed order for F3SV-B1...
