Ok so I'm trying to order the new Vista. The moduslink website is pretty much dead though. Anyways I'm SLOWLY working my way through the process but I don't know which version to order.

Do I want the 32bit version or the 64bit version? The W7J is a Core 2 Duo and that is 64bit correct?

Honestly, I would go with 32-bit. There are still a lot of driver and program compatibility issues with 64-bit Vista, just like the 64-bit XP. You can use either in theory since it's a 64-bit CPU, but I think you will have a much better experience with the 32-bit version.

Go for the 32bit for the reason given above. It will be a while before we see 64bit drivers and much more before we see 64bit applications.

Yes the Core 2 Duo is 64 bit, as above mentioned 32 bits has better driver support than 64 bit, however you may just want to wait until the 64 bit drivers start to become more useable and work properly.

You don't have to get vista right away, you can wait a little before getting it, just incase you really want 64 bit, but have to settle with 32 bit because of driver issues.

Thanks for the input. The website for doing the Vista express upgrade is the most frustrating thing with connectivity issues. I did it once with 32bit then got to I think was the last page where I enter my address and my connection went out so I had to start over. Well the second time around its saying my COA is not valid.

i may not be 100% on this but i think you only get one chance with your coa, any attempts afterthat will be failed.

thanks for the input everyone. Yes the COA only works one time in 24 hours. I emailed them because my COA wasn't working and an automated email told me they know that COA's were getting locked out and they fixed it so it resets every 24 hours.

Given the option, I'd go with the 64-bit. Then I'd run my XP for a while, until the support for 64-bit has been improved, and more bugs have been worked out. I'd likely wait until SP1 before even switching over to Vista. It would be sad if you got the 32-bit version, and then later decided you wanted a 64-bit one and had to buy it seperately.

I really like the flexibility this program gives people buying notebooks these days.

I couldn't agree more. I too just purchased the W7J and will opt to get the 64 bit version of Vista. I won't be installing it until SP1 is released and hopefully there will be enough 64 bit driver/software support by then. Buying a new notebook is a huge investment and I plan on using it till the 2 year warranty is up.
