I believe that's the new refresh to the K42JC model. Same chassis, better CPU and GPU.

Looks like a nice gaming laptop for those not looking for a disco show that is the m11x. Better specs for the money too.

The K42 isn't exactly a direct competitor to the m11x. The K42 is a larger laptop and has significantly less battery life.

No eSATA, no USB 3.0, no ExpressCard, no high speed peripheral options. Do they have any competition?

I was looking at this too. Can anyone say anything about the build quality of the k42 series? I don't want a flimsy, cheap feeling laptop.

The m11x supposedly has great build quality, but I think kosti's description of it as a "disco show" is really apt. Not a laptop that I could bring to a meeting.

The K42JC-A1 has optimus while the K42JV-X1 does not so it would seem tha the JC is the refresh.

According to what I'm able to find on the web, the K42JV does have
optimus. (The X1 just reflects a particular configuration of available
shipping options--hard drive, memory, etc.--and shouldn't change things.)

The k42jc has a 310m graphics card, which is much wimpier than the 335m
in the k42jv. If you were releasing a new model, why would you put in a
slower graphics card? Generally, technology gets faster with time.

I was looking at this one also. I had bought a Lenovo Y460, but it was totally flaky, so this Asus looks pretty nice.

The Asus website is terrible, totally confusing and out of date in many cases. Also, their naming system is more bizarre than Sanskrit! Was probably easier to decipher the hieroglyphics on the pyramids

I'm going to buy one of these. Even though there is almost no information on it, it looks like a sleeper. Great value for what it is.

Anyone have this laptop and care to share their experiences? My initial impression is that its a 4820tg with better build quality.

Hows the keyboard? Does it flex?

I'm having trouble deciding between the three models. Does anyone know if there is a difference between the speakers between the three models?

I recently got a K42JC-A1 from overstock.com. It is a decent laptop specially for the price I paid. Only think I dont like about this laptop is the poor speakers. I have been looking into adding external bluetooth speakers. I would appreciate if any one of you could help me find service manual to this laptop so that I can add a bluetooth chip

I just bought Asus A42JV/K42JV. It have NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M & Intel HD graphic cards. It automatically switch between these two GPU according to what application is running. This indicate that it does have Optimus technology, right? This notebook have very good performance, although I did feel it is a little bit slow when running applications. Maybe I just too comfortable with Intel Core i7-720QM on my Dell Studio. :D
