    Hello,

I recently bought a K53E-BBR5 laptop and would like to replace the CPU with an I7-2720QM that I already have. However, since the latest BIOS update mentions 2670 support, it seems to me that the 2720 isn't actually supported by the BIOS yet... Is this correct? If so, is there a BIOS that that will run on this laptop and support this chip? I really like the laptop, but need a faster processor, so I'm hoping there is a way to resolve this. Thanks!

To follow up on this, I updated to the i7-2670qm without a problem. The i7-2720qm will not work without an updated BIOS (which does not exist at this time).

Thats great to hear but personally i think the updated bios just add support for the new batch of sandy bridge: 2760qm 2860qm 2960xm. If your system originally has a 2630QM you should be fine upgrading to a 2720QM.

Or did you actually try it and the system doesnt recognize it?

Yep, I tried a 2720qm and it wouldn't boot. I didn't have a 2860qm, so I can't say definitively, but based on the specs on Asus's website, it seems like the 2670qm is the highest CPU supported. I was also told by Asus support that they had no plans of supporting any higher-end chips in this specific laptop in the future.

By the way, I already created a separate post on this, but if anyone's taken their K53 apart and knows whether a 1080p screen upgrade would work without having to modify the lvds cable, please let me know!
